But they're using renewables! a) they're not, they're all quietly pivoting to dedicated natural gas plants, built by their oil buddies, b) renewables should be used to power useful shit c) this makes it so that renewables don't displace fossil fuels, they just add to supply for increasing demand

I see. Like I said the proposals align with a lot of work already being done around green central banking, monetary-fiscal coordination, credit guidance as part of green industrial strategy... so bold yes and probably not ideal timing, but it has legs imho

As a framework for shifting towards a doughnut/wellbeing-shaped economy I think it's essential to look at monetary and fiscal rules, credit regs, inflation policy as current rules and tools actively work against acheiving that. So credible in that sense. The question is how to acheive given... 1/

The difference is it's v difficult in current system to grow the GDP only by growing the good stuff, ergo unless Burnham is willing to let GDP as an overall goal slide then good growth is just a slogan, whereas Greens are proposing radically restructuring the economy to reduce GDP growth dependence

Hmm it's a bit misleading. Earnings from energy are only about 2% of GDP but we have zero GDP without energy. Adding up the wealth shares is meaningless. The ultimate source of wealth (profits) is exploitation of land, resources, and labour. Resources are hugely profitable esp if you steal them.

Borrowing is just the way the US (and all sovereign currency-issuing nations) create money. Yes it's a waste of time and resources and is awful and cruel... but the US doesn't need to borrow from any other country, and it doesn't need to earn more taxes. It can just do it. Money is political.

I'm doing neither. I'm saying it is scientifically inappropriate and ethically questionable to see climate as a problem to be economically optimised, rather than take a risk management approach and define a biophysical limit over which we ought not to cross, and then make policy guided by ethics.

Thank no it wasn't tho I am a bit skeptical of anything that repeats the trope that LTG was wrong...tho I am reading Clive Spash (social-ecological econ) who similarily critiques ecological econ's attempts to court orthodoxy and argues for a new philosophy of science based on critical realism.
