Neurodivergent people have a different way of thinking. Different is good. Diversity is good. It’s why life evolved in webs of diversity. The current regime wants to stamp that out and make copies of themselves in some sort of clonic inbred way that would have spelled extinction for most species.

Fascinated by the sociogeny of madness and "mental health”? Compelled by the affective turn? Want to burn down the house neurodivergence research currently resides in and build something much better from the ashes? Consider submitting a proposal to join the 4S Panel I’m organizing! Link in 🧵.
We have yet to see “the affective turn” genuinely embrace the world of neurodivergence and mental health. Scholars of disability
and physical “health” are expanding notions of what it means to be disabled, and critiquing the interrelated necropolitical
systems of incarceration, policing, public health, Capitalism, white supremacy, fascism, and others, that impact debility,
wellness, and flourishing. Sadly, scholars of neurodivergence and mental health have largely not followed suit. This open panel
aims to change that. We invite submissions that explore the complex interrelations of discursive practices, the human body,
social and cultural forces, and individually experienced but historically situated affects and emotions of madness and/or mental
health. Explorations might include: sanism and its discontents; critical psychopathology and/or emerging alternative approaches
to mental health and wellbeing (e.g. somatic approaches, neo-pharmaceuticals/medicinals); historical-comparative case studies
of madness and mental “illness" (including papers that explore the appropriation of indigenous and First Nations methods and
modes of care/treatment and/or the exploitation of Black and Indigenous peoples themselves); critiques of the DSM (and/or other
diagnostic tools and psychometrics); narratives and first-person accounts of diagnosis (including self-diagnosis) and/or coming
in/to disability/madness (particularly those that decenter whiteness and cisheterosexuality, and/or that are global/transnational);
visions of neurodivergent and/or mad futurity; stories of mad/crip thriving and kinship/care networks during the crumbling of
empires; and many others not named here.
