Join me in donating to your local bail fund and @nationalbailout.bsky.social — let’s bring home all the moms for Mother’s Day.
White text on blue background reads, What would it look like if we brought moms home? 60% of women in local jails are only there because they cannot afford bail. They haven’t even been convicted of a crime. Let’s reunite families today! Then there are two broken heart symbols.

Black women shouldn't have to fear for their lives when they're bringing life into the world. But we're 3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications. Black Maternal Health Week is a reminder: this crisis is preventable. Black moms deserve quality care, respect & the chance to thrive.

I had the privilege of guest editing the spring issue of Frank Lloyd Wright Quarterly. Entitled "The Architecture of Continuance: The Act of Understanding, Preserving, and Conserving," this issue includes phenomenal pieces by Magdalena Novoa and Daisy Ocampo Diaz, among others.
Front Cover of the FLW Quarterly, entitled, ""The Architecture of Continuance: The Act of Understanding, Preserving, and Conserving." It is a deep bronze color with FLW geometric patterns in gray, and a red square in the top left that says FLW Quarterly. It has a table of contents of the articles.

Americans will use anything except the metric system
Image of a graphic from a meteorologist report at CBS Austin. The top banner reads, 'the weight of ice: why power outages are possible" and then shows a graphic of a tree filled with golden retrievers next to a house and several power lines. My premature son was brought to the NICU. I cannot convey the depths of my despair when they told me wouldn’t be allowed to see him for at least 24 hrs because I was still on an IV. The hospital could have had a setup to enable me and other patients with IVs to visit the NICU, but chose not to.

This is actually a good example of why the customer model is wrong. I wouldn't have chosen poetry writing, but UNC made me take a class. And it absolutely made me become a much better writer, with an eye to concision and an ear now trained to the rhythm of words. I'm a better historian as a result.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics" guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation
Basic light pollution diagram showing four different streetlight set ups ranging from more light pollution on the left to less light pollution on the right. The most pollution option, labelled "very bad" is a street lamp with a round uncovered bulb on top, making a sphere of light in the air. The next option, labelled "bad" has a tiny cap on top, that limits the upward pollution a bit. The "better" option is mostly uncovered on top, limiting pollution above the streetlight. The final option, labelled "best" has a full shroud overtop, limiting the light to only below the streetlight, where it is needed for pedestrians and vehicles.
