It's October 3rd, so we're wearing pink! 🌸 On Cerro Pachón in Chile, nature puts on its own show during twilight, painting the sky and NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory in glowing pink. We can't really enforce a dress code for the cosmos, but the Chilean skies clearly got the memo.

BREAKING📢 Crack team of climate scientists show "it is no longer defensible for companies proposing new or extended fossil fuel projects to claim the climate harms will be negligible. Our research shows the harms are, in fact, tangible and quantifiable – and no project is too small to matter"
theconversation.com
For the first time, we linked a new fossil fuel project to hundreds of deaths. Here’s the impact of Woodside’s Scarborough gas project
The results challenge claims that the climate risks posed by an individual fossil fuel project are negligible or cannot be quantified.

I've been in this community for 20 years and these results are pretty much exactly what I expected based on my own experience. I only know of 1 NAm whatsapp group & it's a very random and small collection of folks. I'd love to run this same survey in the UK/EU to compare!

If you read the survey, you'll see we asked about that. It scored quite low on the list of priorities for those already actively and regularly (weekly+) engaged in climate communication. Suggesting that, because they are active, their sense of efficacy is higher than average. Which makes sense.

In my opinion the most important function of higher education is to teach critical thought, creativity, and the ability to learn. Virtually any discipline has the potential to do that, and those skills are so transferable, they can be applied across any other sector or discipline in the future.

And I’d say there’s a 99.9% certainty of massive Type II errors in these estimates. All that to say, I am up for being part of any experiment you want and I definitely think you are on something here. One step at a time is the way we do anything!

However, when 2 people in 2 weeks tell me they changed their entire career path b/c of my TED talk; 5 more swapped out their gas stove for induction b/c of one newsletter; and these are typical stories I hear constantly – I have to accept that behavioral change is happening. I just can’t measure it!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, because I have been basically running a behavioral change experiment for well over a decade now. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to track the results other than through (a) how many people access the content and (b) anecdotal feedback about the result.
