It can seem pointless to note Russian war crimes right now, this is their STRATEGY, not a byproduct. Causing exhaustion, fear, deaths, hunger, cold as winter comes. Then get invited by Trump to G20. BUT it needs to be noted, recorded, by the sane parts of the world, for responses and consequences.

Yanis Varoufakus: 2/ This is not an anti-inflation policy. It is a cynical transfer of income from people who did not cause the problem to people who are, in fact, profiting handsomely from it. And it is an excuse for further acts of vandalism on some of Australia’s important institutions. #auspol

Agree. But wars don't just happen when things blow up. It's the stuff in the background that's just as important, like the pathetic attempts at sanctions (because profits) and the shameful US withdrawal from meaningful negotiations (because Putin). All so sad.

I really want a glass of wine right now. But see worldpopulationreview.com/country-rank... 30 other countries supply Ukraine with nearly $500 billion aid. We supply < 2b. Ukraine needs Patriot missiles - clapped out Abrams tanks ARE a token. Yes, we should do better: give more for civilian aid.

Sure. On a per capita basis, Australia has the 11th highest emissions in the world. So in that case whatever we do *can* be effective. No one is arguing not to help Ukraine, but unless we've got Patriot missiles to offer them, maybe we could actually be a bit more thoughtful about our contribution.

Kate Lance @katelance.com · 03/10/2026
Only 2 options in this vast & complex world? Wow. Yes, weapons are a token, give us no *effective* say over Russia either way. Mad idea: AUKUS = $368 billion, 18 x our Ukraine donation. Maybe threaten US with loss of $368b so they help Ukraine with Patriot missile plans? Better than old tanks.

Great read. Infrastructure upgrades have been brilliant, but rarely get kudos, e.g. 85 level-crossing removals, 50 rebuilt stations. Hope Victoria doesn't screw up: easy to whinge, hard to repair the always Liberal-led destruction of public resources. Kennett's unforgivable vandalism still hurts.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

We contribute less than most: worldpopulationreview.com/country-rank... Global pressure on Russia is only thing that will stop the war. Military aid is just a nice little earner for the *donor*. Forces get valuable war experience, and defence industries adore the spending.
