This is an excellent read about what’s been happening here in MN by @attackerman. Those with actual power have been failing us, to say the least. (And often worse: helping the federal invasion along.) So average people have stepped up out of survival.

Someone in Minnesota is driving. It is not Walz or Frey. It is not Greg Bovino or Kristi Noem or Donald Trump, and it won't be Tom Homan. It is the people themselves: the outraged, galvanized, multiethnic working class, who see the imperial boomerang spinning toward their heads, even if they might not use that term. They are not only building power from necessity. They are laying a foundation that, should they choose to, can take the reins of state power by ousting those who either are failing to protect them or who promise to use state power against them.

TEXT: Socialists are at the forefront of an unapologetic, aggressive agenda to abolish ICE and prosecute offenders. Zohran Mamdani got whoops and cheers from the audience of The View when he unequivocally called for the end of ICE. The people are way in front of the Democratic Party, to say nothing of the Republicans. (Trump, despite his advisers, seems to recognize that ICE and CBP have profoundly miscalculated in Minnesota.) But it has been the choice of the dominant faction of the Democratic Party—including Frey, who is pro-cursing at ICE but anti-abolition—to avoid this fight. That should be the lever for ousting this faction from positions of responsibility and taking over the Democratic Party, the only available option for stopping the depredations of ICE through existing political channels. It's a choice between their seats and our lives.

2. The problem is not Maduro. The problem is the precedent. When military force is used to change governments without clear rules, sovereignty ceases to be a limit and becomes an obstacle. Today it is “overthrowing a dictator”; tomorrow it will be “correcting an election,” “protecting interests,” “restoring order.” The law does not absolve dictatorships, but neither does it legitimize unilateral crusades.

Maduro isn't the problem: he's the face of the problem. Removing him from power would be merely opening the door. And there's something even more difficult: Chavismo didn't just capture institutions, it captured daily life. Economy, media, bureaucracy, employment, fear, favors, blackmail. A country can't be "de-Chavistaized" by decree or by an electoral miracle. The real transition begins when that network is broken without setting the country ablaze.

The challenge is enormous, and it's also a moral one: to unite without vengeance, but without impunity. Targeted justice for those most responsible, truth for the victims, guarantees that the rest will dismantle the system, and a plan for people to live again—not just survive. Because freedom doesn't come with a new president: it comes when the state ceases to be a threat.
