I remember being an intern and on my second or third week being peer pressured into not only signing someone's retirement card, but chipping in for a gift for them. Their present was a beautiful card stuffed full of cash.

My mother did a long stretch in multiple hospitals recently enough. The TV situation was diabolical. So I got some tiny usb-c to infrared things on AliExpress and turned my phone into that Casio watch from the 90s that was also a universal remote. Waiting room TV's hate to see me rocking up.

I will admit that I'm not a huge fan of gambling companies. Especially because of the amount of online advertising they push onto me. But many gambling companies have been caught targeting people who have gambling addiction. Not saying Fred has, but cdcgaming.com/brief/betfre...

Only 71,850 people have registered to vote in the new Higher Education constituency for the Seanad, despite a potential electorate of between 800,000 and 1,000,000 graduates. The unified 6-seater is open to graduates of over 80 higher level institutions, not just the historic TCD and NUI.

So the government cut excise on fuel to reduce fuel prices but are increasing public transport fares because of inflation. In a cost of living and climate crisis. Make it make sense.
Commuters to face increased fares on buses and trains
Rising cost of State funding for public services has been a spending concern for some time

For years the only things I knew about Rod Liddle were limited entirely to what Eamon Dunphy says about him in this clip. I assumed he was a football commentator or something. But having seen a small selection of his "opinion" pieces, I think we can agree that Dunphy was on to something.

2009 - transport policy identifies need to make public transport a realistic option to achieve modal shift 2019 - Bus Connects proposal identifies Orbital O route as route with highest frequency 2026 - O route shelved 2026 - Government Campaign urges people to make sustainable transport choices
“Smarter Travel: A Sustainable Transport Future”, a 2009 policy setting out Ireland’s transport priorities for the period 2009 to 2020 which says: “Commuters will only begin to consider a shift from car to bus transport when the advantages of the bus are greater than those of the car”.Route O (Inner Orbital)
Route O is the most frequent orbital route in the whole network,
operating every 8 minutes in the middle of the day, similarly to
spines G and H.
Line O is intended to surround the inner city along the North and
South Circular roads, allowing travel from the very dense and
active areas surrounding it to avoid travel directly through the
city centre, and allowing connections to and from all radial ser-
vices. This should help relieve pressure on radial service through
the core of City Centre. From: https://busconnects.ie/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/fullreport_chapter_7.pdfhttps://irishcycle.com/2026/05/01/o-bus-route-to-circle-dublin-city-centre-no-longer-has-rollout-date-td-says-its-not-funded-govt-says-priority-for-2026-is-stabilisation/Your Journey Counts -

Expected but never easy to accept that to most people, your life achievements outside of marriage and kids don't matter. Work success is unremarkable, personal development insignificant, the large pile of human bones procured from the fallen bodies of your enemies is merely a cause for concern, etc.

Yesterday 55.4% of the electricity consumed on the island of Ireland was generated by wind and solar. There's a lot more to do of course. But a lot has been done in a very short space of time.

March saw some of the lowest ever CO₂ emissions in Irish electricity 🏭️ ☀️ What's driving decarbonisation on the Irish grid, and what are some of the threats? Find out in the latest edition of "Irish Grid Monthly", available now to all our newsletter subscribers!
A line chart of monthly CO₂ emissions from the Irish grid. The x-axis runs January-December and there is one line for each year. The y-axis shows tonnes of CO₂ each month.

Footnote reads: All-island figures. Source: EirGrid, SEMOA treemap of the electricity mix on the island of Ireland with the following fuel types: battery, pumped storage, biomass, hydro, solar, wind, oil, gas, and waste-to-energy. Larger sources are annotated with the GWh and percentage of total generation that source comprised.

I see a lot of people who are rolling their eyes at this idea. And yeah, I get it, but right now the current tax scheme really only benefits people who speculate on property and become landlords. Putting money elsewhere has a lot more taxes and complexity.

This is one of these ideas that both sides of the Atlantic are mutually baffled by. I think on one of my trips to the US Google said I walked less than 850 metres in the course of a week. Which blew my mind. I walk more than that to the train station on the days I'm in the office.

There’s still time to check seanadvoter.ie and get registered for the new Seanad Higher Education constituency before the February 26th deadline. Please don’t assume you’re on the list as voters on the previous NUI and TCD panels were not automatically added to this new register.
The Green Party together with the Young Greens / Óige Ghlas are urging eligible voters to check the new Higher Education Seanad Constituency register in advance of the 2026 deadline on Thursday, 26th February. Recent graduates and graduates of newly designated institutions will be eligible to vote for the first time.
