Kant’s Categorical Imperative includes the Formula of the Universal Law and the Formula of Humanity. Act as if your choice/act will be repeated by everyone; treat other people as an end not a means. AI is the perfect tool to violate both laws.

If you, btw, would like an example of a place where data centres are *actually* being restricted by legislation, go look at Denmark - where they are now last in the grid connection queue, prioritising socially valuable load growth (like electrification, heating, cooling, new homes) first
servola.de
Denmark Puts Data Centers Last in New Grid Law
Denmark's emergency grid law puts data centers last behind households and green-transition projects, formalizing rationing that began in February 2026.

I will probably (hopefully) never own a car, but if I did it might look like this fully-electric bare-basics Citroën Ami (which technically is not even a car). Just check out the margins around it in the parking place. A car-bloated SUV would bulge out over the edges of this space.

It rained, very mildly, today, for the first time in weeks, yet strangely France's long-running drought still gets very little press coverage. In one of the richest countries in the world there are tens of thousands of people without tap water.

Student protests and bin fires all over France today. The town where I live and a few neighbouring towns are affected. Disruptions to bus services and school opening hours. Protestors are asking for better facilities and replacements for absent teachers.

France appears unstoppable when it comes to electrification: in September, electric cars already accounted for 42 per cent of new car sales. Since the start of the summer, this share has been rising by several percentage points every month. Is the oil price crisis one of the factors behind this?
The graph shows the market share of electric cars and PHEVs in the French market, with strong growth from June 2026 onwards in particular

When I hear Ai folks talk I had a tape recorder in the 80s that could talk without an organic brain. I mean, sure, it was just echoing my voice back to me, but that it could perform this feat at all surely means that it was conscious. And wait until you hear how smart my calculator-watch could be.

They tried their best to make the idea of having more things we want nearby, more options and choices in our cities and neighborhoods, seem like a conspiracy. But never forget what the REAL urban conspiracy has been — moving everything further away and making us car dependent. #1HourCityConspiracy

Plant-rich diets are the food system's electrification. Petrol cars only see 18-25% of their fuel energy get to the wheels; EVs 87-91%. Heat pumps are 2 or 3 times more efficient. Food has its own combustion engine: a chicken turns about 13% of its feed calories into food, worse than a petrol car.

I emerged by the rocks after a long cold swim. Towelling myself off, I sneezed, and a long-limbed heron erupted from the other side of the rocks with blood-chilling primeval squawk, flapping its way into the distance, staying low over the water. I sneezed again, but no other heron appeared.

Ireland - where there is a huge housing problem for humans, but no shortage of space for storing data; where you can struggle to find a charging point for an electrical vehicle, but no problem providing gigawatts of discounted electricity for data centres. This government is clearly misanthropic.
