BBC interview with kids in 1966 predicting the year 2000. Quite accurate is it? Also do you observe the fluency of the children? Nowdays they would speak with ah, oh, okay, whateva.

I've really loved 70 Up. So moving. You just can't dislike any of the people involved. All so different, yet all so relatable, and all so reflective of how life panned out. Just want to hug Neil – I'm so glad he is still with us.

I’ve worn a grubby RNLI cap for decades. I sound London, but I was born in Truro and I was a basically feral (Gen X) kid wandering the coast path with a dog until sunset for a lot of my early life. The lifeboats are in the fabric like trawlers and farms and pasties and fish and chips.

Fellow Stokies (and anyone visiting Stoke-on-Trent), I’ve found a wonderful restaurant/cafe/brunch place today. It’s called HIDDEN…and it is a gem…at the old Hudson & Middleton factory in Longton. It’s quite new and simply amazing. Please go and try it out. You won’t be disappointed

In May of 1940 there was a mass panic in Britain - stirred up by the tabloid press - about 'fighting aged men' who had come to Britain as 'refugees' posing a threat to the women and children of this country - and essentially forming a 'fifth column' that could, at any moment rise up against everyone

My country has achieved the feat of making the most universally loved and respected charity in the land afraid for its own safety. And yet the dark pantomime of aggressive grievance and its media legitimation continues. If Hippocrates is a traitor for not cherry-picking lives, then are doctors next?

The book isn't enormous and Baxter isn't tiny. But this is the best picture I could get before the blithering nincompoop decided my book is actually a chew toy, and bedlam ensued. "The Wolf That Chews Rocks" 14 Sept Hardback, ebook (audiobook coming soon) From all good booksellers and platforms
Vanishingly rare instance of Baxter remaining still while I take a photo of him and my book.

Astonishing to hear people say they'd rather asylum seekers drowned than be saved by the RNLI. Next comes letting people die in burning hostels rather than be saved by the fire brigade and letting people get kicked to death in the street rather than be saved by the Police. Don't platform this hate.

I was today years old when I learned the Christian halo likely goes back to an Ancient Greek cover against bird droppings.
Diarmuid Ó Cuirc tweets:

In Ancient Greece, a meniskos was a bronze disk mounted above the head of a statue on an iron nail. Its purpose was to prevent birds from fouling the head of the statue.

It is likely that this is the origin of the halo in Christian art...

Absolutely this…so tired of seeing empty properties (mainly former businesses) left for years and years. Until they’re too decrepit and therefore too expensive to do anything with and then have to be demolished. We have factories galore here in Stoke-on-Trent which would make great flats but no…

All MPs' outside earnings by party: The Conservatives come out top at 66% of total earnings from second jobs, while Reform (with just eight MPs) account for 20%, and Labour (with 400+) just 7%. But taking into account their size, Reform has by far the highest outside earnings per MP of any party.
Table:

Party	MPs	Seat share	Earnings share	Index relative to party size (earnings ÷ seats)	Approx. avg. per MP
Reform UK	8	1.2%	20%	16×	£275,000
Conservative	117	18%	66%	3.7×	£62,000
Labour	403	62%	7%	0.1×	£1,900
Other parties*	122	18.8%	7%	0.4×	£6,300
