The reason we have all these Claude-built recomp/decomp projects is because the AI dorks couldn't figure out how to shoehorn LLMs into games that were made 20 years ago so they all got together and had their agents do a little brainstorming and came up with a strategy to ruin yet another good thing.

That brief bit of introspection and humanity aside - fuck this, this absolutely needs to be slammed and had enough noise made about it for the people at the top to feel. Discord already has an unaddressed child exploitation problem, and now we are baking gambling sponsorships into the platform.

In local spaces, I've gotten a few compliments on my dead bounces and occasionally asked how I look for them. So I made a lil graphic of what I look out for! This applies to both Real and Vpins, the majority of my playtime is on VPX but I absolutely think this applies to both! Hope this is helpful!

The flippers of Monster Bash, with the left side colored to sections of the top of the flipper. Underneath is a legend that goes over what the colors mean.

red: The "Uhoh!" zone! Don't try to dead bounce here, its very risky at best, will do the silliest, saddest flop over to the other side. Try other saves. Note: If the flipper is raised, the tip of the flipper is great for passing it over to the other side!

green: The "Yippie!" zone! Leads to an ideal dead bounce! Don't panic flip, the ball will typically make its way to the other side and roll down at a pace thats easy to attempt a good shot. It also feels great!

yellow:The "Wild!" zone! You're usually good to dead bounce here too! but be careful as the trajectory could be a bit bouncier than the green zone, and depending on the layout, bounce into sling territory (Bad!).

purple: The ambiguous "What the hell!? I swear the ball hit the rubber there, why did it just slide off!?" zone! If the ball hits the inlane part and not the flipper, it usually doesn't bounce. Either get ready to flip on that side, or try shielding/cradling.

PAPA 23's final preorder list is out and the event is down 44 players from PAPA 22 - or 16.67%. Notable folks missing include a large swath of the Chicago pinball community, particularly folks who play in the city. To quote a Chicagoan I talk to: "We all really like Kayla around here."

PAPA 21 - 209 Main, 168 Classics, and 29 Women's Participants
PAPA 22 - 264 Preorders, split amongst 240 Main/197 Classics/43 Women's Participants
PAPA 23 - 220 Preorders, currently in progress

After this recent ban it's just increasingly obvious that the IFPA just never wants to come to a table or talk or do anything in good faith. This doesn't feel like another big moment in the greater protest - it feels like proof that the IFPA doesn't care and people would rather ignore the problems

Also don't place blame on the venue where PAPA 23 is going to be held. They're a great place, and relatively unique in the Chicagoland area for having the most pinball machines (and most unique) in a single location at a time. They had no say in this.

With all my frustrations with the IFPA, please remember not to place the blame on people who don't deserve it. That goes especially for Belles & Chimes. Belles & Chimes is a loose affiliation of pinball tournaments for women and non-binary players. They are trans inclusive. They didn't do this.
