I like to think there was a big fight at headquarters about whose song to use, and in the end they had to just use both.

I hope that’s what @nikhunder.com did after helping with our bike bus this morning!

I only got 3 hours of sleep, but the bike bus was fine. Barely controlled, exuberantly joyful chaos.

The corker map we’ve been working on this week is borderline Charlie Day murderboard if you know what I mean

Second bike bus tomorrow so naturally I’m spiraling. It’s fine, I’m fine, it will be fine. But also AHHHHHHH.

“Stop the Child Murder” absolutely whips as branding compared to its more polite US variant, “Vision Zero.”

So good. I saw these on my aforementioned paper hunt for my husband, but I don’t think he’d appreciate them as much as I do.

The Lurie Garden in Millennium Park is finally mostly open! The water feature is functional again and lots of people were enjoying it.
A wooden boardwalk in a native plant garden that steps down to a shallow, narrow water feature. Several people sit along the edge. In the background is the Art Institute of Chicago Modern Wing with a newly installed artwork by Tony Cokes visible. The yellow installation on windows with red type reads “Let yourself be free” (from Aretha Franklin’s 1968 recording “Think”). Further is the southern side of the Chicago skyline along Michigan Ave. It’s a sunny, blue sky day with a few wispy clouds.

So this was a first: A woman on a classic Divvy asked me to stay with her as I announced my pass near Ohio St beach. A guy on a bike was sexually harassing her, and she didn’t feel comfortable because she couldn’t go very fast. I rode with her to her exit. Just unbelievable.

Oh yeah I know, just without the red paint it could look like a parking lane (the same way a painted bike lane does)

Will people park in it today?

I’ve used the plantoeat.com app for several years now. There’s a subscription fee, but it is 50% off every Black Friday, so I just renew then. Completely worth it IMO! It’s very customizable.

It’s protected by a concrete curb and flexi posts. It was right outside Baby Gym in the southbound bike lane.

It’s easily the best lane I’ve personally ridden in all of the city too

Kati @kadschmad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
The rider really didn’t want to do that, but if it was me I 100% would have.

I came upon a bicyclist who was doored in the Clark protected lane just north of Lawrence yesterday. They were shaken up but physically OK. The upsetting part was that the person who did the dooring immediately closed the door and would not come out the entire time we were there tending to rider.

It is! I live right here but haven’t been in. I’ve heard it mostly caters to the college set (god bless).

“Run these streets” = have 36 inches that a driver can block at any second from either side

I mean I’d be mad if I was driving on a glorious day like today. But it’s impossible to live in Chicago without a car due to our 8 months of snow, so I completely get it.

Last year our block didn’t use our annual block party permit so they used it on Halloween. It was SO FUN. When I recommended doing it again this year (especially since Halloween is on a weekend) people laughed at me.

If you don’t have kids or haven’t been to one, I can totally see how it might seem like an effort to make trick-or-treating more “safe.” But it’s usually just a way for people who know each other but don’t make it to each other’s blocks on Halloween to have some costumed fun.

I hate the car centrality of trunk-or-treat as much as the next urbanist, but I’m begging people to understand that they aren’t substitutes for trick-or-treating. A church, school, or other org might host one as a Halloween-adjacent gathering.

Someone is walking behind me on the sidewalk whistling. I feel like I’m in the beginning of a horror movie. They are a good whistler, I just hate whistling.
