I wear super thick ski mittens if it is below zero. And an additional thin pair of it drops below -10. I get cold easily and this solution allows me to bike all winter!

44 times for the year with an average distance of 85km. Most of our trips were on the longer side. A picture isn't the best format, but here is the breakdown. I can send you the actual spreadsheet if of interest. We have the Value Plan. A lot of shorter trips is better suited the other plans.

And here are our costs for the last few years -- I would say light users of car share since we do most by bike: 2022: $2783 2023: $1297 2024: $2667 2025: $2218 2026: $389 (so far)

Car share cost totals per month and year. The first column shows the date, the second the monthly cost and the last is the annual cost.

We rode out to Bike and Bean on Sat. I was concerned that the abandoned railway signs would mean a lack of maintenance. I wasn't prepared for the trail actively being made worse. Lots of construction between Cranberry Lake and Tantallon. Short term pain for long term gain? I'm not optimistic...

I saw this post the other day.

A screenshot of an Instagram post that shows an overhead view of a bridge. There are cars on the right and two cyclists in a dedicated bike lane on the left. The Post is by hfxharbourbridges and says that there were 6698 cyclists and 5660 pedestrians who crossed the bridge in October.

I lived there during the time when so much cycling infrastructure was installed. It was incredible. When we moved back to Halifax we were so optimistic that it was headed in that direction. But progress has been sooooo slow!

We had initially planned for a rain date but it turns out we wouldn't have enough volunteers for Sunday. So it will be tomorrow. The weather looks a bit unpredictable so if it is indeed too wet we will have to cancel. But if it's just drizzling it will go ahead.

It took three of us to stop one driver. He backed up to try to go around me. Then a friend joined me while Steve calmly talked to him. By the end I heard Steve telling him that it was a nice area to live in.

And both drivers stated "I live here". So? The kids have the right to be on that road as much as them. I tried to explain that to one man and he berated me about kids needing to know the "rules of the road", ie staying on the right side of the yellow line. I then stopped trying to reason with him.
