Cabinet in the Woods was a fantastic time, and felt like a perfect extension of my original 2019 idea. I got to meet so many folks at CitW simply by sharing a slower-paced smaller space. There's folks online that I got to meet for the first time a-plenty. It felt like everyone found their vibe.

For those considering switching to Linux over Windows and have no idea if it'll be a good change, remember: Windows: Can play Fortnite, and can play League of Legends (Bad ❌❌❌❌) Linux: Can't play them (GOOD ✅✅✅✅)

It is obvious to me that AI has immense destructive power, but I don't really think the people dismissing these concerns as 'marketing' are doing so because they are uninformed or as 'cope.' I think the AI industry's historical capacity for puffery is informing these takes.

One of the most consistently damaging thought patterns among players is treating skill level as static and games as exams rather than something more like instruments. You walk in with whatever skills you had, you get tested & graded and you walk out. It leads to *a lot* of negative trends

go read this great essay!!!!

a paragraph from the blog post: The way this author's childhood nostalgia overlapped with my own lived experiences of education had to me laid bare the artifice of yearning for a "pre-tech" existence. If a Game Boy is now a delightful little gadget for teenagers to play with between classes, won't smartphones eventually also become a gleefully simple retro computing device once something better comes along? If high school's "salvation" can be recognized by way of a return to 80s kid comedy antics and Weezer CDs, are we really chasing solutions to the ills of technology, or just blind nostalgia?

I made a blog! been thinking a lot about our relationship to technology and what I find unsettling about "tech detox" culture go read it: noreturn.blog/p/the-rise-o...

An article titled "The Rise of the Techno-Pastoral" by Lisa Peralta. The image that accompanies it depicts a gameboy whose screen shows a pixelated green field and trees, and its lead reads "When criticizing the present, we keep dreaming of the technology of the past. Is this logic sound?"

I feel that old school FPS fans kinda went through that until people from inside the bubble decided to take matters into their own hands and now we have a boomer shooter community with games made from sickos, for sickos The big problem there is that fighting games are much harder to make
