tangent but I also think in the era of simultaneous global releases, where people have maybe a few months, if not only weeks, to workshop titles to try and find A Really Good One, instead of the possibly years people could have had in the past on average title localizations just aren't as good

in an parallel world the publisher of Rashomon in the US could have reasonably decided to localize it as "In a Grove" and in that world, just as in our current world, calling it Rashomon is just objectively better sometimes a title is just too fucking good to change

if the localization team is able to hit on a really catchy, memorable title then it's fine to use it but imo 9/10 times the actual winner is the abbreviation of the Japanese title, and you can tell this is broadly true by how often localizations will use the JP abbreviation with an English subtitle

There have been two occasions in my career where I had to go to war with teammates against mistaken understandings of probability. In both cases, it was because people expected large numbers of d6s to occasionally result in maximum damage. But the curves for 3d6 and 15d6 (e.g.) look like this:
