I wonder what it felt like to work in the dotcom boom. Was there a pervasive sense that the internet is inevitable but also that things were insane in ways that obviously wouldn't work?

Had a fantastic time at @localfirstconf.com. Started off relatively stark with discussions acknowledging the general political instability of our times and how much data sovereignty matters. Ended with an absolutely wild demo of @inkandswitch.com's patchwork project. Lots of good bits in between.

One cool thing we're doing at @jazz.tools is reimagining migrations. Instead of migrating your data, you tell clients how to read it, inspired by @inkandswitch.com's Cambria paper. Last week I built this interactive diagram to show how it works. Check it out in our docs: jazz.tools/docs/schemas...

The nascent HTML-in-Canvas API is exciting to me not because of flashy effects, but because it extends the semantics that the DOM can (tractably) represent — as a tiny example, it's possible to show an element in multiple places, cheaply, under arbitrary transforms. folkjs.org/demos/html-i...

NY's requirement to publish the creation of a business in the paper for 6 weeks is kinda insane. You even have to post if you're doing a new DBA. I get it's likely just a subsidy of legacy print media which on the face of it is fine. It's $1.4k to do a publishing in BK, so everyone uses Albany.

I keep finding all these new & exciting tools and services. Historical me would be delighted and dig into them and build some mental context about where they sit in the ecosystem. There are *so* *many* now. It's cool, but also so very exhausting. Too much of a good thing?

Ahh, claude code doesn't let you override tool call behavior on PreToolUse. That's too bad.

Was trying to publish some NPM packages for the first time in a while and wooo... the DX there definitely still needs a lot of love. JSR is *so* easy, heck, they'll write the publish action for you.

When I'm working on a difficult piece of software there are all these moments of introspection dredged up by the friction that make me continually question if it's the right way to do things or the appropriate direction. Coding agents remove a lot of that. It's easier to go the wrong way longer.
