i very much do not like the current idea that it is ridiculous to ask questions about AI which were perfectly reasonable to ask in 2019

there’s an uncomfortable nuance probably worth diving into about the ethics of using generative AI to ship code versus generate art assets versus clone a person’s voice versus push slop to the algorithms. I truly don’t know where the line is. it’s frustrating

I think I need a better avatar
An illustration in the style of a tarot card titled “THE HERMIT”. It depicts a bearded man in a dark cloak sitting on a rocky outcrop at night, holding a lit lantern. A small, fluffy dog sits beside him, and a pocket watch rests on the rocks nearby. In the background, a body of water reflects the moonlight, with a distant lighthouse on the shore.

What’s wild is I’m getting similar performance on my P40 GPU from my initial test. Can’t wait to see what this can do on a local machine
A screenshot of a performance report for "Strata" running on a P40. The text states that generation is faster than previous options, with a cold start at 22K tokens. A table below lists the following metrics: Generation speed at 49.2 tok/s, Time to first token (cold) at 54.5 s, and Prompt processing at 422 tok/s.

This is a complete betrayal of Ukraine and of Europe to violate sanctions on Russia. And Congress has passed laws to block Russia oil sales So Trump is violating international sanctions and federal law This should be his second impeachment related to Ukraine

Getting hyped for You Can See Everything
A screenshot of a movie details page for "You Can See Everything," directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. The page shows a rating of 4.2 stars and a short synopsis about Elizabeth Holmes inviting a film crew to document her before going to prison.

Here's what Trump judge Gary Brown said in a filing ON MONDAY about Brenan Cuni, who almost shot a kid in NYC. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
After the Court required a further submission to explain this incongruity,
respondents submitted an affidavit from Brenden Cuni, a Supervisory Detention and
Deportation Officer with ICE, who was responsible for conducting the background
searches. DE 20-7. Cuni was notified “some time before 5:50 PM” that “Petitioner was detained.” Id. ¶3. He searched five separate federal databases, all of which “yielded
negative results.” Id. ¶5 (emphasis added). Cuni then “issued and signed the I-200,
Warrant of Arrest, and checked off the boxes relating to ‘biometric confirmation of the
subject’s identity and a records check of federal databases . . . .’” Id. Of course, since the
records checks were negative, it was undeniably false, though represented as true in the
warrant, that “biometric confirmation [and] records check of federal databases
affirmatively indicate” that the petitioner lacked immigration status. DE 7-1. Cuni
explains that ICE then processed the petitioner, and in so doing, entered his data into
those various databases. After processing (and after the warrant was signed and
executed), Cuni ordered another officer to run “a second records check of the electronic
federal databases, which then yielded positive results . . . because Petitioner’s information
was now part of the system.” DE 20-7 ¶7 (emphasis added).

This is such a weird position to take. They don’t want people abusing their service. There are other providers who will let you be as cruel as you want. Anthropic just doesn’t want it on their platform. Companies are free to refuse to sell services to people based on their conduct?

I think Greg is correct, but Americans need to be aware that Magyar’s Tisza government is aggressively going after every Fidesz official, removing them, using every lever of the state to yank them out of power. This is far more aggressive and rapid than anything proposed in the US so far.

Something big may be happening: Trump's world-historical misrule may be creating the conditions for the emergence of a coalition similar to the one that ousted Viktor Orban earlier this year: Anti-corruption, anti-authoritarian, pro-democracy. I made this case here: newrepublic.com/article/2161...

Julian requests: 'I've had a pi subagent running some benchmarking on the p40. it's been waiting almost a kilosecond for a process to finish. can you investigate while not disturbing it please?' Diagnose current benchmark read-only through existing authorized Mac SSH alias personal, strict knownhosts/existing auth. Remote /home/julian, Homelab /home/julian/projects/homelab; read relevant AGENTS/access docs to reach P40 host safely. Prior recent verified hardware TeslaP40 23040MiB+RTX2070 8192MiB, host15GiBRAM, Ilama.cppQwen3.8-35B-
A3B-IQ4_XS,2slots131072 each; current benchmarking may use different model/settings, verify. Identify pi-owned benchmark process/waiter, actual elapsedtime, command without exposing secrets, parent/children,
CPU/GPU utilization, processwaitstate, file/log progress and resourcepressure using lightweight safe reads. A few spaced read-only samples are okay; NO testinference, workload, locks, debuggerattach, strace/ptrace, profiling, kill/signal/restart, processstdin, settingschange, or messages to external pi/Claude agents. Do not interrupt ongoing benchmarking or consume substantial GPU/CPU. Read existing output/logtail and filetimestamps to assess runningvsstalled; no huge logs. First return useful findings quickly, then concise evidence, likelycause, uncertainty, expectednextstep, and whether intervention would needapproval. No implementation or mutations. Follow relevantrepoinstructions but don't let them expand authorization. Sol6.1 only, no recursiveworkers. Parenthandlesuserupdates.

Working for 2m
I'll inspect the benchmark through read-only SSH checks, keeping the running workload untouched.

Once again, the Supreme Court prioritizes imaginary harms done to Trump by not allowing him to indulge in his conspiracy theories, as opposed to the very real harm done to citizens who may lose the ability to vote in this case.

Honestly I think this is just something that differentiates people. Are you curious about how this stuff works or no? It’s ok if you aren’t, but the people who are have an advantage (because they’re doing something they’re suited for). I remember in grad school having to explain to a peer…

i think the closest analogy to 'what is going on at AI companies' is 'what was going on at JPL in the 1950s,' where communists, Satanists, swingers and adherents of a bizarre Russian Orthodox-adjacent techno-optimist microsect ended up doing a tremendous amount of important rocket science

Union Alpha is a bit weird. Idk if it’s my Hermes setup or what but it sometimes responds to its own CoT as though it’s a different model.
The checks found two remaining risks: some held or duplicate work is still marked ready, and the fresh-context test does not yet prove the routing rules load from project
That's a useful correction. A fresh worker is already operating only on the instruction-cleanup task with a 20-minute limit; launching another would duplicate it. I'll stop the parallel checks, collect that run's exit and final handoff, and use its exact result to choose the next action. Success means verified cleanup handed to independent review-

Applying the approved block-only cleanup now. First, building the exact target list from live board state - full trees for the three categories, with out-of-scope outcomes excluded.

You're right-the failure was a string-versus-integer lookup error, not missing board data. I'll use a fixed, inspectable target list and apply only blocks. Archival remains out of scope.
