Let me be clear: we know from evidence in countries around the world that physician dual practice drains resources away from the public system and, in many cases, increases wait times for public patients. This goes directly against the spirit of the Canada Health Act. 1/3

I keep meeting smart informed Albertans who tell me they do not intend to vote, because they don’t want to legitimize the process, or because they know the premier is not bound by the results. But what if making us give up on voting is the whole point? My argument to vote - no matter the absurdity.

You're watching a sand bubbler crab hard at work. And bubbler crabs have one job: make balls. Lots of balls. With your mouth parts. They're filter-feeders/detrivores, combing through damp sand for microscopic food & the balls let them organize the "cleaned" sand so they don't nom it twice.

Most of the time, I don't draw with a goal in mind. I start with empty intent, & see what develops. But sometimes, I draw with a purpose. Here's an example: a picture of my parents' dog drawn, which I drew for my mom's birthday. Do I draw such things on commission? Yes I do! You just have to ask!
Art. Black and white drawing of a dog (it's a spaniel, even!) looking hopefully upwards, as if there is food in the offing. The drawing is made of abstract shapes and lines, but you can tell. This is a dog with curly fur, a stout collar, and a heart full of belief.

"Why are loons so low in the water" is such a great question, I want to explore it. See, loons have SOLID bones. Ducks have HOLLOW bones. But why? Well, ducks generally don't dive beyond 10 ft (~3 m) while loons routinely dive down to 30 ft (10 m), but can reach 200 ft in pursuit of fish.

It's August and I have 20 days left to do the #InverteFest cover lmao. Taking species suggestions, plug your favorites. The more obscure the better. Previous 5 covers are below. #Art #SciArt
Five pieces of art compiled in a single image. Each one is a dense piece featuring various different species of invertebrates.

Artwork 1: An ornate design with a jumble of various marine life messily stacked on top of each other in the middle, surrounded by a wavy border. The entire design is in contrasting red, dark blue, with bright yellow outlines.

Artwork 2: An assortment of colorful invertebrates. Some of the animals are tube shaped, others are frond shaped, frilly, shelly, a few leggy or tentacly. The edges of the image is balanced by geometric shapes, just as colorful.

Artwork 3: White drawing on black. the main figure is a wave of white, flowing from the bottom to the top composed of a slug, a worm, a jelly, and so on swimming and flying in unison. On the background are sketches of geometric patterns.

Artwork 4: Line-heavy drawing. Opabinia on the right and wavy, fern or tendril-like shapes coming out from its tail end swirling across the image made of various animal parts, with geometric shapes arranged in the background.

Artwork 5: Various patterns arranged in hard geometric shapes. Near the middle is a moth surrounded by two layers of diamond shapes, each with different geometric patterns inspired by invertebrates. Outside are various vaguely animal-shaped patterns arranged in circular and rectangular segments.

I was discouraged when my "fish on bicycles" project failed to achieve its aims, but I can finally announce that I have completed my "FISH ON STILTS" project successfully. Meet Bathypterois grallator, the tripod fish. They live in the deepest parts of the ocean, resting on three modified fins.
It's a blue-speckled fish standing on comically oversized thin bony rays or spines that are modified from fin structures. It looks very much like a wire tripod that a fish is sitting on. This image was taken from Fishes of Australia, which gives this description and sourcing:
