And the US just bombed Iran at the behest of Israel, which has been claiming its at immediate risk of a nuclear strike for 30 years and we’ll all be told Israel has a right to defend itself, but anything Iran does is an act of war and in another 30 years we’ll be told there was no need for any of it

I don't think Americans realise just how passionately Australia's big commercial media stations love the cops and authoritarian crackdowns. They are passive-voicing a US police officer targeting and shooting one of their OWN JOURNALISTS www.crikey.com.au/2025/06/10/a...
In 9News’ clip, an armed officer turns his weapon towards Tomasi and fires, striking her in the leg. The words “you just fucking shot the reporter” can be heard, with Tomasi crying out in pain before clarifying, “I’m good, I’m good.”

Criticism soon emerged on social media in response to media outlets using obfuscating or passive language in headlines and articles to describe the shooting. 9News’ own tweet, its Sydney 6pm television bulletin, and its breakfast show Today all described Tomasi as being caught in “crossfire”, while news.com.au described what hit Tomasi as “a projectile”.

I have updated the plot for timing of the peak in the cherry blossom season (満開) for Kyoto. 2025 was tied with the third earliest blooming, happening on March 27. The timing of the peak of the cherry blossoms is getting earlier, as a result of warmer temperatures in February and March.
A plot showing the number of days after the start of the year the peak in the Kyoto cherry blossoms happened. This plot goes back to the year 1500. The timing of the peak of the blossoms is indicated by a cherry flower symbol. A red lowess smoothing curve shows the trend in timing of the peak. The timing of the peak in the blooming is getting notably earlier. Prior to the 1900s, it happened in mid-April (105 days after the start of the year), but now it is happening closer to the start of April (91 days after the start of the year).
