The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

Let us be clear: Brooklyn needs a fair vote by the elected District Leaders. The Chair attempting to pick her own successor after she lost an election isn’t democracy, it's cronyism, and the illegal rules changes she has fought to enact would permanently end democratic oversight of our party.

With only 7 weeks until the midterms, Dems need a Brooklyn party that knocks on doors and wins races, not one that is preoccupied with fighting its own voters. Join us tomorrow morning before the County Committee meeting to call for an end to this ongoing misuse of party funds.

I must highlight a VERY important but easily-overlooked detail from this reporting: Corrupt party leaders packed the courtroom with a bunch of random people who had no idea why they were even there. This relates a lot to how they maintain control over County Committee... 🧵
Several of the people leaving court said they’d gotten a call from their district leader asking them to show up in court, with little explanation of what they were attending. One woman who declined to give her name said she’d gotten a call from someone in Bichotte Hermelyn’s office.

“Just to come to the meeting. They didn’t give us no details,” the woman said. She’d arrived after the courtroom was full and waited outside and said she wasn’t sure what had happened. “I didn’t know anything.”

Brooklyn's elected Democratic leaders have spoken out overwhelmingly to condemn the Party Chair's attempted last-ditch rules changes. This kind of anti-democratic power grab goes against everything our party stands for, and it must not succeed.
Democratic Party leaders from Brooklyn overwhelmingly slammed Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn’s announced plans to rewrite party rules in order to keep herself in power. Bichotte faces a coming leadership vote after a new majority of District Leaders, who make up the party’s Executive Committee, were elected by Brooklyn voters in the June primary. She is now trying to rig that vote in her favor by packing the committee with dozens of her handpicked supporters.

The following leaders have issued statements opposing the Chair’s proposed power grab: U.S. Reps. Hakeem Jeffries, Yvette Clarke, Nydia Velázquez; Democratic Congressional nominees Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Mike DeCillis; New York State Attorney General Letitia James; New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams; NYC Comptroller Mark Levine; New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes; New York State Assemblymembers Brian Cunningham, Robert Carroll, Jo Anne Simon, Phara Souffrant Forrest, and Emily Gallagher; NYC City Council Members Crystal Hudson, Jennifer Gutiérrez, Shahana Hanif, Sandy Nurse, Lincoln Restler, Chi Ossé, and Kayla Santosuosso; and New York State Democratic Party Chair Jay Jacobs.

They are joined by many past, present, and future Democratic District Leaders, including Bichotte Hermelyn's co-leader in Assembly District 42, Josué Pierre, who said in a statement: "Our party should respect the choices voters made at the ballot box. I will be voting no on this proposal."

Democrats shouldn't be the party of anti-democratic power grabs and denying elections. Enough is enough. Our full statement:
This June, Brooklyn Democrats elected 22 District Leaders from the Brooklyn Can’t Wait coalition who had pledged to bring a new era of leadership to a Brooklyn Democratic Party that for too long has been weak, corrupt, and visionless.

Those 22 District Leaders make up a majority of the 42-member executive committee that will elect the party chair once they are seated at the party’s yet-to-be-announced organizational meeting. Last month, the Brooklyn Can’t Wait coalition announced their united intent to elect Julio Peña III as the new party chair.

Today, the outgoing party chair, Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, announced a vague plan to throw out the party rules and pack the executive committee with more than two dozen of her handpicked party officers so that she can overrule Brooklyn voters and hang on to her position. This would be a flagrantly anti-democratic power grab, a return to the worst days of bossism — Vito Lopez tried the same trick two decades ago before he resigned in disgrace. It would go against everything our party should stand for. All Democrats should reject it.
At a time when faith in politics is at an all-time low, our party should be working to rebuild trust with voters, not telling them once again that their voices don’t matter. The Trump Republican Party is the party of lawlessness, of authoritarian leadership, and of denying election results. Democrats must be better.

Our party should be focused on winning elections in November. We have competitive races right here in Brooklyn, across NYC, and statewide. Yet the party chair is once again showing she is only concerned about herself, threatening to throw the party into chaos and sapping attention and resources away from great candidates who want to deliver for the people of New York. This adds to a long history of feckless leadership that includes botched endorsements, borrowing and spending huge sums of money to kick other Democrats off the ballot while raising nothing to support Democratic candidates in competitive general election races, and repeated allegations of corruption.
Enough is enough. We call on Assemblymember Bichotte Hermelyn to withdraw this anti-democratic scheme before she does even more damage to the Democratic Party and to the public’s trust in our elected leaders. And we call on every Democratic elected official in Brooklyn and beyond to stand up and make sure our party respects the will of the voters. Our party needs an orderly transition of power, following the rules, so we can organize and win in November.
