NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV's Al encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah's team then privately lobbied the pope's advisers "to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously." Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing.

AI polling results can lean on racial or partisan stereotypes

In many cases, our AI poll took beliefs or attitudes that are reasonably common among a particular subgroup and portrayed them as nearly ubiquitous. For example, our AI poll would indicate that:

97% of Hispanic adults are at least somewhat likely to follow the World Cup (while the actual share is 43%).

I did my own math: allegedly our old (2016) kia ev gets about 3.3 miles/kwh. electricity rate is about 25 cents per kwh, so about 8 cents a mile, even with CT's high rates. Also no oil changes, no spyware. Too bad its max range range is only ~100 miles on a good day!

The reigning social order is precarious. It is impossible to maintain such extreme disparities in wealth and power without continuous surveillance. That is why Flock cameras and related technologies have become ubiquitous. Fight surveillance. Fight tyranny. store.crimethinc.com/products/you...
A red sticker on a light pole, reading:

Wherever you go, whatever you do, whoever you are, you are under surveillance because you are a potential criminal. Perhaps you secretly doubt the sanctity of corporate property, or the validity of laws made by the rich to govern the poor, or the soundness of capitalism itself—we can’t afford to assume you don’t. That’s why there are video cameras pointed at every cashier and police cars circling every block. Left to itself, a state of disorder and inequity returns to equilibrium; our job is to perpetuate this one indefinitely.
