Why the customs union? If you are going for FoM (good), then single market is best bang for your (future) €.

Tony Blair rejoins the growing voices of those calling for an abandonment of Labour EU red lines and reversing Brexit. But in a symbol of all that was wrong with the Remain campaign, he does so saying the UK should only rejoin if its demands on EU reform are met 🧐
So, this is not about rerunning the debates of 2016 but taking a new approach rooted in the reality of 2026.

There is no point in inching towards Europe as we feel what British public opinion might accommodate. We should be clear that we want back into a formal relationship with the EU. But it must be a Europe on a credible path to reform, a Europe of nation states, a Europe capable of being a genuine global power. Otherwise, though Britain should continue to cooperate with the EU where it is in our mutual interest to do so, and though we should always remain open to changing circumstances, Britain will show that it can and is prepared to remain independent.

Tony Blair, Executive Chairman

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

There is a lesson here for Canadian governments about keeping a tight eye on narratives about Canada being pitched in Washington, London, Brussels, Delhi or Beijing, often by info-grifters who moved abroad. What seems a minor discourse irritant can be suddenly weaponised by enemies of Canada.

fuck you I deny it
We don't accept uncontrolled immigration to Europe, and we have spearheaded a strict immigration policy, both in our home countries and in Europe.
None can deny that illegal immigration has a negative impact on our societies: growing crime rates, increasing pressure on public services and erosion of public trust.

Don’t want to pile on, but fully agree with the criticism. Mike, you one of the anti-Brexit heroes. I’m grateful for your voice and your hard work. But this is a very bad take, and sends the wrong msg. Exceptionalism led to Leave, and will doom re/join. Besides, the Euro is great.

Combined Lab+Con support is just over 35% in Westminster polls (lowest since universal male suffrage in 1918). With 7+ parties competing across England, Wales and Scotland, calls for PR for the House of Commons are getting louder. Scotland and Wales just gave us two real-world models to compare.

The local elections are also about Brexit! When we left the EU, our towns and cities lost access to the regional funding and investment we used to get as EU members. Brexiters swore the money would be replaced, but it wasn't! We need that extra funding. So only vote for parties who want to rejoin!

So the argument is that Brexit was the right approach, but it hasn't worked out, so we want to come back. I'm not buying that, not for one second. All she's saying that if the US President wasn't crazy, they would continue to reject Europe. Brexit was wrong in 2016, 20, 24 and today

Repeat after me: There has never been a special relationship, except in the hopeful, delusional British eyes. A one sided love affair. It’s a proto-Brexit fantasy promoting Brit exceptionalism that holds the UK back from embracing the EU.

Along with the deep immorality of student fees, there's also the staggering lack of logic. Politicians are basically saying: "We need to reduce immigration and increase domestic resilience by training our own home-grown skilled workers – so in order to do that, we're going to put them all in debt".
