Interested in science, natural history, preserving biodiversity. Restoring and protecting a 2-acre prairie remnant for 20+ years 😱 ... I have a lot of questions. I try to read, but tend to fall asleep when I stop moving. Wisconsin

I was going to try to capture some Fall color, but somewhat windy today. Here’s a blurry photograph of American Hazelnut. It’s beautiful in person. #NativePlants
Blurry photo of American Hazelnut shrub. The leaves are shades of yellow, orange maybe red.

Regarding #AI, I propose physically limiting AI models to small networks. Physical limits, not software locks and keys #AI can power through. Zero network connection to the outside world. Not even the hardware for, say, Wi-Fi. And if you need to feed it data, you can move it over via flash drive.

Thinking about the surface of the continents before there were plants covering the ground, limiting erosion. Building 4,000-foot thick layers of quartzite not so difficult to imagine. Let’s make thinking about deep time normal human behavior.

Wow, cool research on Neanderthal use of wood! The wood itself is gone, but they've got a method for studying the voids left behind by wood objects.

Dissolved rock precipitated around the tools, which then decayed.

Hold on! #AI out there just sending fake emails to people? I didn’t need more reasons to ban AI, but moving this up the list. It’s just a matter of time, if it isn’t happening already, the lazy media will be quoting made up shit from undisclosed sources. Stop #AI now!!!

A puddle full of fallen maple leaves in tones of red, yellow and orange. Rain is falling, creating concentric rings on the surface and there is a slight bluish tinge to the gray reflection of the cloudy sky on top of the puddle.

If countries would just help Ukraine win the war in Europe instead of providing half-ass support there wouldn’t be a “shortage” of diesel fuel. Also, it would help if idiots refrained from starting more endless wars in the Middle East.

Which corporations, private distributors, and retail outlets will be moving Russian diesel from ships to trucks and tractors? I need to send a few emails and call some people. Not a fan of boycotts but could support a few right now.

Hello. I generally try minimize political posts. I prefer to scroll Bluesky for interesting science, natural history, to learn about the small joys in your life, see photos of your cats and dogs and lizards and birds and lichen and protists and rocks and trees … But the diesel thing … 🤬

And #Republicans #GOP are perfectly fine if American truckers, farmers, and everyone else relying on diesel send more of their dollars to Russia to feed the Russian, Iranian, and North Korean war machines … WTF? Wake up, Republicans. Stop the madness.

J. Raasch @jraasch.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Someone might want to remind DJT’s Republican enablers that dollars flowing into Russia in exchange for diesel fuel are going to be used for buying weapons and parts from Iran. And Iran will use the money for building drones for killing Americans and our allies. Why GOP hate US soldiers ? 🤷🏻‍♀️

GOP Surrenders to Russia Decades of political ads portraying Democrats as weak on defense. And once GOP controls all branches of the Federal Government they’re like, oh never mind, let’s send our enemy some cash to build more bombs, buy stuff from North Korea, meddle in elections … 🤬

If you fill a fuel tank with Russian diesel, you’re filling it with Ukrainian dead … innocent men, women, children. Don’t care? Okay … if you fill a fuel tank with Russian diesel, you are pissing on American veterans and dead, and countless allies, who sacrificed their lives during the Cold War.

A local inhabitant told us the long narrow triangular parcel was cut off from the larger parcel south of it by the road, so wasn’t practical for grazing or haying. Which might have preserved the prairie remnant.

There was once a road, arrow 1, through my front yard. The aerial photo provided an explanation for some weird topography I was wondering about. Arrow 2 points to our prairie remnant. The dark spot right of the remnant was probably a big oak tree.
Grayscale aerial photo from I think 1930s or 1940s. Bright white lines correspond to current county highways. Someone told us the roads were straightened during the 1950s, leaving bits of old road here and there. A slightly degraded white line is the older roadbed.

our muscles atrophy.
I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al
