Woll with 41 saves in a 3-2 OT loss to NJD. I’m happy to see him play well but uhhh are the Flyers terrible out of the gate, here.

Every time I see this, I see a man who knew what was actually valuable in life and it didn't take billions to acquire so I question every other rich person's sanity.

Honestly, I think the Leafs were by far the sloppier team tonight (and with good reason — they’re an entirely rebuilt roster vs the Habs who are basically the same) but I think the game was pretty even. Might even say the Leafs had the better chances. Good sign for Blue.

Welp. Let’s see. Raddysh was brutal. Bob looked good, but Dobes was excellent. McKenna looked like he should take a year in the AHL. (He’ll be good, he needs time.) Marchenko looks way better than Knies. Thought Roslovic was a mixed bag, more good than not. Go Cowboy. Willy!!!

Hard to know what to expect from this team. I guess basically no one thinks it’s “contender” or even “division winner.” Seems like most folks think “wild card.” Call me a pessimist, but I’d say that the WC level of success is a feasible but fragile one. Go sports.

One cool thing about this Knies-Marchenko trade is that the Habs really wanted Knies at this past deadline and were actively trying to land Marchenko. www.rds.ca/hockey/lnh/a...

Interesting clips, here. Highlights Knies' speed and strength heading to the net, some great playmaking ability in traffic. Marchenko though... those hands and that shot. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm6W...

I think the Leafs are a better team on paper than they were an hour ago, but I’m moderately concerned that they’re going to be able to gel quickly enough to be good this season.

JP Nikota @jpnikota.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Seems like Marchenko is a talent upgrade on Knies, and he’s a right shot, which makes sense for setting up Matthews. I’m not sure how Roslevic’s presence on this roster makes any sense going forward if handedness is so important to the Leafs, though.

The Leafs seem legitimately interesting for the first time in years but $350 a year for Sportsnet+?? Ughhhh. I don't know if I can bring myself to do it.

It's a Gary Bettman wet dream: Moving the Leafs to Phoenix. (On a more serious level, I do think it's something the team is doing for the league. It's of no financial benefit to the Leafs to do this, and no benefit to their fans.)

Well the AHL Leafs looked better than the AHL Sens + Cozens, Eklund, and Lehner. Thought TLK was pretty good, though he got cleaned out in the faceoff dot. Danford looked solid, if unspectacular. No complaints.

I know most of you are watching the Sportsnet feed, but I only have RDS, so I’m watching the AHL Leafs play the Real Habs. Akhtyamov was great (despite allowing 3 goals — not his fault) and this Hlavaj character has also looked pretty solid in net?

Been doing this little exercise over the off-season, thinking about whether this Leafs' team is better than last year's (at least on paper). I've looked at each player relative to their counterpart at the same position last year. Green for better, orange for maybe/wash, red for worse.

Plumins has looked good this afternoon, as well. He’s lost sight of the puck a few times, and he’s had help from the posts 3-4 times, but his rebound control and ability to read plays have been excellent. Interesting project.

Tinus Luc Koblar has been pretty shifty with the puck at this rookie tournament, and I like what he’s created, though he seems to lack finish. It’s always hard to know how much to take from these games, but I certainly see what scouts like about him. Smart player.

It’s been a tough week. One of our daughters began having a pretty strong allergic reaction to our new puppy and we have had to give her up. Since Zoé (our last dog) died in late July, we have now lost two dogs in two months. And now it seems that we can’t get another. Just gutted.

Kind of happy to hear the Leafs aren’t playing McKenna in the rookie tournament. He’s gonna have a hard time with the number of games played already. Also no need to risk injury against a bunch of try-hard long-shot hopefuls. Was kind of hoping to see him here in Gatineau, but this is wiser.

Where the heck was Chayka when Evangelista’s name went on the block? That’s a young, playmaking top-6 RW with great underlying numbers going at a price the Leafs could have easily matched or beaten.

So I was preparing for the NFL season by listening to a podcast panel discuss who they thought were the top 10 teams in the league. I’m a Packers guy first, though I also cheer for the Jags, and both teams on the fringe of that list. Got me wondering about the NHL’s top 10. 1/n
