Interesting how the exact same political actions being labelled differently just because they’re carried out by different actors. What is terrorism again?

Hard to overstate how much Hegseth's execution stream mirrors the U.S. military's traditional description of ISIS propaganda: broadcast killings designed to send a message, strike fear and create a social media spectacle. Will almost certainly be repurposed by online terror cells

China and North Korea have never live-streamed an execution to the masses. In terms of public executions that have been recorded and then shared and spread online, there’s stuff from Iran and also Mexican cartels.

The 1000 time I’ve had to remind whoever is out there that migrants didn’t cause the housing crisis. It’s the dysfunctional politics and mismanagement of resources over the past few years if not decades. But what happens when there’s an election? Let’s blame everything on people who can’t vote aye!

My question: Given the impact misinformation and disinformation have had on CALD communities in past elections, and the large CALD population in Victoria, what has the VEC done to improve information accessibility and digital literacy among culturally and linguistically diverse communities?

The road to homeownership in Australia is one of rental duress, "discretionary" spending and investing time, energy and money into improving properties for landlords. It shouldn't be like this.

I am talking about TAFE courses that have looser attendance and assignment requirements. As far as I know, that’s what visa agents would suggest. But this path would mean women are under more pressure to maintain their presence in domestic labour while also studying to maintain their visa status.

Good point. I guess the only way for them to work around this is to apply for a student visa by enrolling in a one-year course at a smaller institution. But that would restrict their working hours and increase their financial and social reliance on their male partners.

International students are not to blame for the current crisis in Australia, as pointed out by numerous researches in the past years. But they have became such an easy target in every recent election to excuse all political parties’ dysfunction bc they can’t vote. I’m so tired of this.

The move seems more ideological than anything to me. If we’re speaking purely from an economic perspective, international students and their families: 1) are entitled to work; 2) pay tax like everybody else; 3) can’t access Medicare because they don’t have PR;

No article in a newsroom is a one-person job. It requires editorial teams and institutions more broadly to patiently and generously improve regional literacy, with the necessary time and resources. Unfortunately, most newsrooms in the Western world aren’t moving in that direction.

How this article has been received really shows how much local identity has shifted in Taiwan: decades of Taiwan-focused historical research, alongside the growing tension between this emerging local-centric narrative, the KMT’s ROC-centric narrative, and the CCP’s Chinese nationalist narrative.

They seem to have assumed that a Chinese American reporter would know this context, while multiple editors failed to treat the story with sufficient care. That’s partly because they themselves lack in-depth knowledge of Taiwan and the broader Sinophone world.
