It's almost like increasing the prices non stop while necessary items are also increasing means that stuff like consoles will sell less. They can say "but market conditions... We NEED to" as many times as they want, but it doesn't change the fact that a more expensive console means a smaller market.

Everyone's talking about the cuts to the studios and dev, which, yes, absolutely. But the behind the scenes cuts to areas like business planning, forecasting, demand planning... these aren't cuts a serious business makes, imo.

Nah. Socialism is when trans people and government does thing that it is not funding wars or whatever. Although, to be fair, they still have a couple of days to pass another anti trans bill, clearly the thing that will fix all our problems.

People love to get mad at Miyamoto quotes But this is pretty stellar and topical www.videogameschronicle.com/news/miyamot...
"So, the reason Nintendo enjoys such strong global support is simply that we don't start by asking: 'What's trending right now?' Instead, we focus on who we're actually doing this for.
Who is it that's putting up the money? I really dislike terms like
'depreciation' or 'recouping costs.' The people funding these projects are doing it to make a fortune, so why celebrate things like 'we recouped our investment' or short-term profits?
To me, if you've burned through the talents of so many people just to achieve that, that feels like a massive failure.
We've always focused on creating the best possible product to match the 'fun gameplay' we envision. I think that's the only real difference. I might sound a bit arrogant saying this [laughs], but if you make things while constantly asking 'will this make money right away?' you can't create anything truly unique or with broad appeal.
After all, the most 'local' things - like an individual's personal hobbies - are often the ones that resonate globally.
Conversely, if you try to base your work on things that only seem to have broad appeal, you end up with something generic - something where you can't tell who actually made it and that kind of thing actually lacks global strength.

microsoft is in full damage control mode following last week's layoffs. its main strategy so far? namedrop sequels to popular series at every turn. but despite what execs like asha sharma might want you to think, those series were made by people, and now they'll never be the same
Todd Howard just shared plans for the Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield franchises. These worlds have earned a special place with hundreds of millions of people over many years. I'm looking forward to what's next, including the partnership with Obsidian on a new Fallout game and closer collaboration with ZeniMax Online Studios on The Elder Scrolls. The achievements of these franchises are remarkable: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has crossed 65 million units sold, becoming one of the 10 best-selling games of all time, Fallout 4 has also crossed 35 million units sold, joining the top 25, and Starfield will soon reach over 1 billion hours played.
This statement sucks so bad that it makes my blood boil. Look what the franchises did, all by themselves! Look what they’ve accomplished, of their own volition, thanks to their own intrinsic goodness! So many big numbers, which translate to giant heaps of cash in the bank accounts of execs and shareholders! Never mind the people who spent decades painstakingly crafting the many games, stories, and other creative endeavors that corporate ghouls now so happily flatten into “franchises,” erasing themes, meaning, and human beings in favor of empty iconography.

This is how the people running the show at Xbox—and countless companies besides—view games, not to mention everything else in their robotic, colorless lives. Numbers and lines trending ever upward. Fuel for platitudes and faux-inspirational nonsense directed at the LinkedIn hivemind, of which they all paradoxically believe they’re the main character. Another stepping stone toward the next bigger, better thing. No ultimate destination, no camaraderie, no soul. Just an endless ladder that leads to the void regardless of which way you climb.

Digital is the most popular way to purchase games, Sony is right about that, but it's not like physical game sales are non-existent. Consumers having the choice between physical and digital was always the best option.

He blocked me. Lol. Saw their last comment, btw. Even using their point of "supply and demand" that they lazily used to avoid answering anything I said, apparently removing the option of getting COD at 40€ doesn't change the supply side.

Also, it is not a conspiracy. What I said is an actual fact. Companies can fix the prices in the digital stores while that flexibility is not as applicable with retailers selling physical copies. That's without considering the destruction of the second hand market, a point you completely ignored.

jowysw.bsky.social @jowysw.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
The latest COD in the PSN Store right now is 80€. Without any discount, just looking at Amazon (not even second hand), that game is 40€ new. And, again, that doesn't change the argument that I made about how they will be able to fix prices by removing competition inherently in physical game sales.

jowysw.bsky.social @jowysw.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
I'm sure the fact that the prices of physical games being lower than the digital ones (due to publishers not being allowed to fix those) and removing the second hand market of the equation has nothing to do with this decision. Sure...
