Just for context for those coming to this thread later, the third post was made hours after the first two, after a number of accounts only read and reacted inversely to the point of the post (anti-AI industry strategy), and started posting (admittedly entertaining) self-promoting condemnations.

It was definitely too in the weeds - about academic peer review and best practices, etc etc. Tough to follow.

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It's an anti-AI-industry post about their strategy

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It's true - the post wasn't hyperbolic or blunt enough, I actually know this lesson from Twitter. But it's also become interesting that people are doubling down in condemning a post that they *agree with. I mean this is like an aces social media fail case study.

that’s actually a really good term that I will cite from you

this is almost exactly what I was posting about, thank you

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
basically, you misinterpreted what my post was about in the opposite direction of its purpose… at the same time, you may interpret it however you like, because that’s social media

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Seems like we actually agree about everything about AI, but I’m actually very interested about how many people well understand exactly what the post was about, and how other others are taking my critique, and standing against the critique, as a critique to affirm their identical critique.

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
you are correct in so far is that some people need social media to be literal and bluntly stated

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
My third post in the thread states exactly what the post is about, and the second half of the first post speaks specifically to how the infiltration of AI is going to have an adverse effect upon peer review processes. It is a critique of AI business models.

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Thanks for this, it was actually a post about how academic peer review is going to change based upon the disruption and degradation of judgment caused by AI.

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Lesson often re-learned - I gotta be more literal and hyperbolic on social media

But do you see that I'm making the opposite argument than how you characterized it

Funny how the post is exactly about the danger to media literacy...and about 25% of the readers read it exactly backwards despite it's clear tone.

It's an anti-AI post observing how the media literacy is setup for longterm change by the corporations...

Correct, it's not a post about pizza menus

Josh Shepperd @joshshepperd.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I hate to break it to all of the "I'm special" responses - I post against AI use weekly and I'm talking about how the business model is set up to reduce resistance over time until it becomes normalized. I'm glad to hear that you like paper menus.

I think at this point one would be hard pressed to find someone who critiques AI who hasn’t used AI within the last week, even if just to find a restaurant menu. It’s through these subtle semi-connected matrices that we will weaken our concepts of citation and triangulation.

Today’s John Coltrane’s centennial. Listening to his music taught me as much about thinking as Gramsci, Husserl, Hall, or Anderson. One of the very few historical figures who I’d call a hero.
