iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Navigation is the primary way that you interact with a site, so when we created the new site for thatch, we wanted to make sure we built it the right way. See the details on animation, accessibility, and mobile we added for our site. #designsky thatch.dev/blog/sweatin...

Sweating the details: Navigation | Under the Thatch

Navigation is the first thing people touch on a site, and it's where a lot of them cut corners. Here is how we sweated the details while rebuilding Thatch.com for our rebrand, from accessible keyboard...

A major rebrand for thatch.com that we have been working on for the last few months is finally launched. Some really great animations on the site and I'm really proud of the feel of this design. #designsky

I think it's really common for folks to add neat details like this to their site like Mercury, Ramp, or Figma right clicking their home page logos, but it's frequently at the expense of browser capabilities. Trying something where we keep browser link options and append brand links.

So many ai built sites lately that use so much animation. It’s like when someone discovered PowerPoint animated transitions for the first time and felt the need to Star Wars swipe every slide.

Leveraging modes, I reduced a token collection that was 240 tokens to only 60. This removes tokens like text-on-danger, text-danger and instead designers focus on what the token is doing in the surface rather than the state its in, this follows patterns from mode.place. #designsky

Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption. Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow. People have power. Ask Target

I feel like the design community no longer doing wireframes and other information architecture practices was a mistake. It’s like designing a buildings facade without thinking about how the building can stand on its own.

This #GAAD and every GAAD, you can champion #accessibility by hiring accessibility specialists, paying them well, ensuring they have what they need to be successful and make a change, and by not putting their heads on the chopping block first whenever layoffs roll around. #a11y

@bsky.app Could y'all make the accessibility alt text setting something done at the account level rather than client level? For a marketing team that potentially has multiple users and clients, it's very easy for someone to not have the setting enabled.

Whatever DOGE might hope, accessibility can’t be ignored. All of us will experience some form of disability in our lives, and following best practices for accessible design makes the experience of interacting with government better for everyone.

The US federal government was actually less wasteful than most big companies and other large organizations, not least because government had an amazing asset: highly experienced, educated, knowledgeable, talented people choosing public service when they could make a lot more in the private sector.

Also, I've yet to see a virtualization library that plays nice with VoiceOver. NVDA sort of works in focus mode and is correct in browse mode so long as you traverse slowly....It's a hard problem to solve, makes me miss the days when HTML was HTML and there was no VDOM.
