One of the things I've found is that AI heavily indexes resources like caniuse and mdn. Then assumes that is all that is needed to use an aria pattern. aria-orientation is a big one that it assumes just works but has relatively limited screen reader support. Many popular libs hit this too like shad

Navigation is the primary way that you interact with a site, so when we created the new site for thatch, we wanted to make sure we built it the right way. See the details on animation, accessibility, and mobile we added for our site. #designsky thatch.dev/blog/sweatin...

Sweating the details: Navigation | Under the Thatch
Navigation is the first thing people touch on a site, and it's where a lot of them cut corners. Here is how we sweated the details while rebuilding Thatch.com for our rebrand, from accessible keyboard...

What's crazy is that these are exactly the best people you want in your health care pool. That's what gives the everyone else low costs. They want to kick these people out in order to raise the total costs for everyone else to say it's inefficient.

A major rebrand for thatch.com that we have been working on for the last few months is finally launched. Some really great animations on the site and I'm really proud of the feel of this design. #designsky

I think it's really common for folks to add neat details like this to their site like Mercury, Ramp, or Figma right clicking their home page logos, but it's frequently at the expense of browser capabilities. Trying something where we keep browser link options and append brand links.
A custom context menu with "Open link in new tab", "Save link as...", "Copy link address", "Copy wordmark", "Copy icon", "Media kit", and "Press"

Modes are great way to handle these special states. I call it the Syndrome rule when there are many instances of special...or too many special.

A scene from the Incredibles movie where Syndrome is walking away after revealing his evil plan to Mr. Incredible and says, "when everyone is special no one is". Caption reads "When every button is special, none are"

So many ai built sites lately that use so much animation. It’s like when someone discovered PowerPoint animated transitions for the first time and felt the need to Star Wars swipe every slide.

The problem with performance is a cultural problem of prioritizing new feature work over polishing the existing product. Re-architecture of work tends to happen in major redesigns but then that doesn't solve performance or makes it worse due to rush timelines for the redesign.

Maybe flagging support chats or valid windows makes sense? E.g. a support chat may be walking you through steps to reset your password, both are needed. But the bots that are unprompted, "can I help you" those should dismiss on click out (or really just remove that bad pattern)

I think the risk of polyfills is when folks adopt a feature that only one browser supports or other browsers haven't committed to. The concern is that once a browser does ship a release that implements it that it doesn't quite follow the other implementations and the polyfill doesn't kick in.

Missing so many behaviors :/ No click and drag to select dropdowns, menus missing arrow navigation, selects should open to highlighted option. Reminds me of AI generated components.

I’ve seen so many workflows get setup that consume tokens and it’s so ridiculous, like devs, you know you can at least have it at least make you a script right? You don’t need drain the river for ai to call pnpm test.

One gotcha with this approach though is that it's only able to do static comparison on the color values. If a color is transparent, there's no great way to calculate what the rendered color will be as far as I'm aware other than rendering in a browser environment and then doing contrast checks.

Have you checked out some of the linting features in Terrazzo? This allows you to lint the code import step. I think the ecosystem is missing a linting in design though I have seen some plugins come out recently that take a stab at it.

Leveraging modes, I reduced a token collection that was 240 tokens to only 60. This removes tokens like text-on-danger, text-danger and instead designers focus on what the token is doing in the surface rather than the state its in, this follows patterns from mode.place. #designsky

The number of Figma Make callouts I've been getting every time I open a new file today giving clippy vibes
A parody of the clippy character with the Figma logo instead of a paperclip. A prompt reads: "Would you like to use Figma Make? Yes or No"

I've found this in younger folks as well. I have friends who are using AI as a therapy alternative and it's caused noticeable shifts in behavior after they previously told me that they were using AI for advice. My psych has ranted to me a few times about how bad it's getting

This has gotten a bit better for me at least. There were a lot of controls with mousedown only event listeners that are actively being migrated right now to have onclick. So more controls are working…but yeah still working on things like dictating text node content in the canvas

Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption. Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow. People have power. Ask Target

Hey, was curious how you're doing this effect. Are you able to handle overflow with this positioning technique? I've been trying to do something similar but it's hard to anchor something on an inner value without building a lot of js popover logic.
