At first I thought Mattel was doing a Barbie crossover with this… $60, soft goods, “dream date” …not for me, but all in all a solid product. I was just about click away thinking, “Well done Mattel” then I saw 6.5” jfc

Several years later ISU rolled out theirs and being the Cyclones, it made more sense than their U of I derivative cardinal. Anyway, while looking up the logos I saw that CPU won “2025 Best Highschool Mascot in the US” which I think is a much better win …although to be fair, they obviously copied him

That’s awesome! Fun story, although comics/cartoons did it first, my highschool art teacher sued ISU (unsuccessfully) over their similar logo. When our school district consolidated in ’89 he combined the towns’ mascots, a dog and tornado, into the Center Point-Urbana Stormin’ Pointer.

Is this the slime that came with the Pit? If yes, I was really hoping it’d be a bit oozier. With all the DIY slime kits and everything else, I just miss Mattel Slime. Given the lasting popularity of all that it’s just bizarre that the original (and best) is absent from shelves.

The only thing I ever found with any certainty was sleep/stress related. In my early 20s I had a job that frequently required me to close (10pm) and then open (6am) the following day and that would typically assure I’d have an awful day. Good luck (and sorry about the chicken)

That’s no fun. I’ve never been able to correlate any foods with mine and still get to deal with it after several years of a mostly plant-based and very little processed foods diet. Good luck

This is a figure I held little hope of ever seeing. Cool. Looking forward to seeing Sam, I assume he’ll come with a blast effect and that’s why he isn’t just an extra head. A pity the girls were done in the newer X costume instead of this, but I’m just glad to get any New Mutants

I’ve been thinking about what a RPG with a Samus-like character (bounty hunter with an upgradable space/power-suite) could be like. The NES Metroid is probably my all time favorite, for such an early game it crafted an amazing atmosphere. Anyway, thanks for subverting a morning doom scroll.

Thanks @evlynmoreau.bsky.social this was a welcome spark of joy. Regarding a Metroid RPG, that exact idea is what got me to back Darkspace. The book should be arriving soon and I’ve no idea if it will actually lend itself to that but…

It’s been a bit, so I thought I’d check in on Bluesky and see what’s up. However, the first post in my feed is tying together two of my favorite games with my current fixation (TTRPGs) and I feel like nothing else is likely to top this. So cheers interwebs, I’m putting my phone away for the day ☕️

I feel sick to my stomach waiting around to see what atrocity Trump has in mind for the people of Iran this evening. It's hard to fathom our other elected leaders aren't able to check him in any meaningful way. It's an indictment not just of voters but of our whole system. We're ruled by a mad king.

Sam Kieth. His style was harsh, delicate, bizarre, it was all the things. So rich and unique you can spot it a mile away. He showed us that even when the world tells you otherwise, being different is okay. More than okay, it’s imperative. RIP

Sam is one of my heroes. While I drew my share of spiral noodle tatters and homework with drawings of Maxx chasing Isz around the margins, his influence was more indirect and wider reaching, encouraging me to look at things more abstractly and consider whether the “right way” is actually right

I ended up buying every issue of MCP because of Sam and later, after Image’s initial launch his series The Maxx would be one of my absolute most anticipated ever. Darker Image #1 was the character’s debut and that book still gives me that pit of the stomach anticipatory feel to this day.

News of Sam Kieth’s passing is really sad… I really loved his art and storytelling. His run on Marvel Comics Presents, which immediately followed BWS’s incredible Weapon X story, blew my tween mind. At the time I took drawing very seriously and Sam’s anatomy and fabric, so very wrong and awesome
A few issues of Marvel Comics Presents, 85, 100, and an all-time favorite- 92, featuring one of the most absurd and awesome images that Marvel ever put on a coverMy first copy of Darker Image #1 and my still sealed copy with the Maxx card. A digitally drawn homage to the George Herriman comic strip Krazy Kat. Starting left of frame we see yellow Ignatz Mouse having just thrown a brick which is sailing across the center of the frame and in another instant will bash the oblivious Krazy Kat (a blue bipedal cartoon cat wearing a red scarf) in the back of the head as he walks innocently to the right. Everything is drawn in rough black pen and colored in pale washes. A speech bubble from Ignatz reads ‘Maybe it will…’, the word ’Happen’ appears in the whooshing trail of the sailing brick, and a final speech bubble belonging to the Kat reads ‘…Today’.

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

It’s here! A preorder item had caused a delay but His Majesty the Worm has arrived. www.hismajestytheworm.games published and sold by @exaltedfuneral.bsky.social
My arm overtop the book cover of the TTRPG game His Majesty the Worm, showing my ouroboros tattoo and the John Bauer illustration it is based on, a serpent (nearly) eating its tail with some winged fairy brandishing a sword upon the end. My tattoo is only the snake and it could use some touching up. His Majesty the Worm’s logo and introduction, which reads:

His Majesty the Worm is a tabletop role-playing game designed for dungeon-crawling. The Game Master uses the tools in this book to create a megadungeon called the Underworld. The players create adventurers to explore the Underworld in pursuit of their personal quests. Tarot cards are used as a randomizing element. This is a new-school game with old-school sensibilities. It’s designed to make the “boring parts” interesting. Slice-of-life subsystems like food, hunger, light, and inventory management are central to play. The game has robust procedures: characters adventure in the Underworld, rest in camping scenes, then plan long-term actions in the City at the center of the Wide World. The relationships between companions, called Bonds, power the rest and recovery mechanic of the game. Role-playing drives the game forward. Combat encounters are handled with an action-packed subsystem that ensures that all players have interesting choices every minute of combat: no downtime! We hope you will have fun with it!an image with tarot cards showing the game’s Four Phases: City, Crawl, Challenge, Camp
