It’s been a bit, so I thought I’d check in on Bluesky and see what’s up. However, the first post in my feed is tying together two of my favorite games with my current fixation (TTRPGs) and I feel like nothing else is likely to top this. So cheers interwebs, I’m putting my phone away for the day ☕️

I feel sick to my stomach waiting around to see what atrocity Trump has in mind for the people of Iran this evening. It's hard to fathom our other elected leaders aren't able to check him in any meaningful way. It's an indictment not just of voters but of our whole system. We're ruled by a mad king.

A digitally drawn homage to the George Herriman comic strip Krazy Kat. Starting left of frame we see yellow Ignatz Mouse having just thrown a brick which is sailing across the center of the frame and in another instant will bash the oblivious Krazy Kat (a blue bipedal cartoon cat wearing a red scarf) in the back of the head as he walks innocently to the right. Everything is drawn in rough black pen and colored in pale washes. A speech bubble from Ignatz reads ‘Maybe it will…’, the word ’Happen’ appears in the whooshing trail of the sailing brick, and a final speech bubble belonging to the Kat reads ‘…Today’.

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

It’s here! A preorder item had caused a delay but His Majesty the Worm has arrived. www.hismajestytheworm.games published and sold by @exaltedfuneral.bsky.social
My arm overtop the book cover of the TTRPG game His Majesty the Worm, showing my ouroboros tattoo and the John Bauer illustration it is based on, a serpent (nearly) eating its tail with some winged fairy brandishing a sword upon the end. My tattoo is only the snake and it could use some touching up. His Majesty the Worm’s logo and introduction, which reads:

His Majesty the Worm is a tabletop role-playing game designed for dungeon-crawling. The Game Master uses the tools in this book to create a megadungeon called the Underworld. The players create adventurers to explore the Underworld in pursuit of their personal quests. Tarot cards are used as a randomizing element. This is a new-school game with old-school sensibilities. It’s designed to make the “boring parts” interesting. Slice-of-life subsystems like food, hunger, light, and inventory management are central to play. The game has robust procedures: characters adventure in the Underworld, rest in camping scenes, then plan long-term actions in the City at the center of the Wide World. The relationships between companions, called Bonds, power the rest and recovery mechanic of the game. Role-playing drives the game forward. Combat encounters are handled with an action-packed subsystem that ensures that all players have interesting choices every minute of combat: no downtime! We hope you will have fun with it!an image with tarot cards showing the game’s Four Phases: City, Crawl, Challenge, Camp
