Had a lot fun adding new segmentation models trained on CoralscapesV2 (josauder.github.io/coralscapesv2/) and new 3D backends (VGGT-Ω and LingBot-Map) to the DeepReefMap repo (github.com/eceo-epfl/de...)! Happy I believed in learned dense 3D reconstruction wayyyy before it worked so incredibly well!

The right way to pace the frontier is to commit to a robust, open-source AI ecosystem, thereby diluting the power of these badly behaving frontier labs.

CoralscapesV2 is out! Come see my oral at the #ECCV2026 workshop on marine vision! TL;DR: 1. CoralscapesV2 is better than V1 in every way (bigger, higher quality, more diverse, more classes) 2. 65k *exhaustive* fish instance annotations (painstaking is an understatement) 3. Better models on HF 🤗!

Couldn’t agree more that papers as a metric rather than something worth reading have broken ML conferences. But how would you design microconferences so it’s not just nepotism + which institutions have the funding to attend/organize?

It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.

The ‘world order’ didn’t collapse bc Russia invaded Ukraine. It collapsed because the free world chose not to stop them. By refusing to use our wealth & power to defend even a European democracy, we showed dictators everywhere that aggression pays. That was the death blow. We did this to ourselves.
