#GoodMorning from a windy Warsaw. Today we celebrate 35 years of the Department of Electrode Processes at our Institute with a mini conference. I will give a talk in the afternoon about being a physicist with an electrochemistry group.

a sure sign that something is "highly accepted" is if you have to threaten to impose the power of the state against those who don't accept it

I LOVE this episode of @99pi.org , not just because it’s a great story and the field jacket became a model for jacket design. Why do all jackets look like the M43? Because it was based on science and science works! If you design a jacket, given the constraints of materials and function and the

In Google Maps one can see the paths from before they sowed new grass. They really can’t expect people to walk around as the red lines show.

I like how you can kind of follow the progress. At first, a single fence was put up, which led to a new path branching out to the right. Lately the fences were connected with cable ties, so a longer path developed to the left until someone cut the ties and opened the fence again.

Not far from my home the local authorities a fighting a losing battle against people’s desire paths. Every now and then, new fences are put up to keep people from crossing the lawn, and almost immediately they are removed. Time to give up and just create a proper path?!
A photograph of a path in across a lawn towards a road 20 metres away. A wire fence blocks access in the foreground and over by the road. However zooming in, one can see that the middle section of the fence has been removed. The path veers off the left of the photographer, where, not seen in the photo , the fence is also removed
The photographer’s shadow is visible in the picture.

I had missed the Nikon Small World AI claims. I fear that photography as an art form is dying because every time someone posts a great image, people immediately cry "AI," whether true or not. And the distinction will only become more difficult.

For the past 400 years, you could always ask Bubba, Jimmy, Pat, and Steve-O down at the pub for their advice on public health as well instead of the experts (enlightenment marking start of expertise). Non expert opinion is always available. It isn't normally useful, but it has always been available!
