#chemsky 🧪

One reason why AI is still useless for text work despite increasing skill levels is its tendency to behave like a lazy intern. For example, the first third of a translation is usually excellent, but then the model starts to get sloppy with language, drops sentences and whole paragraphs.

Reading this I feel compelled to remind everyone that back in the 1970s, respected scientists became convinced telekinesis was real after they met with "psychic" Uri Geller and even published an article in Nature about it. It took a stage magician to debunk them. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/u...

People have this perception that #HIV is kind of defeated and under control these days. It's very much not. It took a lot of time, money and effort to suppress it to the current level, and if we drop the ball, HIV can surge back to disaster levels really fast. I fear it will.

In the continuing onslaught of in-your-face AI, it is now almost impossible to open a scientific paper without an AI-summary coming up. Your first instinct may be “Ah that is useful”, but is it really close to the truth or what the author intended? (contd. - full "rant" on lnkd.in/p/euwbwNgY)
Snapshot of how the article “Improvements to Seismic Monitoring of the European Arctic Using Three-Component Array Processing at SPITS“ by S. J. Gibbons et al. (https://doi.org/10.1785/0120110109) appears on line with an AI-generated summary. The author has highlighted each of the highlights listed by the AI with criticism to how useful it is, even to the point of distracting from the true key points.
