An El Niño-induced coastally-trapped Kelvin wave will likely raise water levels about 9-14 inches (relative to 1993-2025 averages) along the California coast in early October. During grad school, we’d say that climate change is happening, but we can’t definitively say it’s due to humans (even though we were pretty sure it was). It might be technically correct to say that we can’t definitively say what happened in Nepal/Tibet is due to climate change, but really, we can.
