Latest EU regulatory bullshit, via Asmodee Nordic. Mind you, Asmodee Nordic has never bought any of our recycled plastic game products, but this is effectively a barrier from trying to get marketing benefit from spending more to use recycled or environmentally friendly materials.

Definitive Bestiary Art Preview
Ars Magica Definitive Edition's new Bestiary chapter illustration from Doug Shuler has an incredible number of "guest appearances" in it. Doug's talent for creating lifelike portraits just amazes me, and his Bestiary illustration is chock full of them. The process for this piece was particularly labor-intensive, because of the sheer number of models involved. First, I gathered photos of each of the real-life people appearing in the illustration, some of whom actually …

Perhaps the most dangerous hunting accidents in the Middle Ages weren't accidents at all: they were actually instances of killer rabbits hunting humans. All people from emperor to lowly peasants feared these rabbits, especially the killer Rabbit of Caerbannog (from Monty Python😊).🧵7/7
A rabbit is reloading a crossbow in the left side of the image while another rabbit on the right side of the image is carrying away a human that has been hunted. The human is hanging upside-down from a staff that is being held over the rabbit's shoulder. In the centre is a human hiding in a small tree, seemingly hoping that he won't be killed. Beneath his is another, smaller rabbit that is looking up at him in the tree.

Medieval Hunting Deaths: A Thread Hunting could be very dangerous (not just for animals) in the Middle Ages. Accidents happened and everyone from kings and earls to lowly peasants could be killed by a stray arrow, a hanging branch or a wild animal defending itself. 🧵7
A man in blue awkwardly holds a bow in front of him. He appears to have misfired the arrow, which is up near his face and facing the wrong way.

I've probably talked with you about each game having a "locus of fun" that for many players is not even within the narrow constraints of "playing the game." Deckbuilding, assembling, reading, sorting, collecting, etc.

Their thesis is sound. The formal start and finish of playing a game is a limited part of a hobby game's cultural practice. Just as the RPG session around the table as only part of the game, and "between game" elements like GM prep and player character advancement/development are important.

Also, the late years of the Zagwe dynasty and the rise of the Solomonic Dynasty is a big historical blank canvas to be drawn on!
The mystery of the Zagwe dynasty is perhaps darkest around its replacement by the Solomonic dynasty under Yekuno Amlak. The name of the last Zagwe king is lost—the surviving chronicles and oral traditions give his name as Za-Ilmaknun, which is clearly a pseudonym (Taddesse Tamrat translates it as "The Unknown, the hidden one"), employed soon after his reign by the victorious Solomonic rulers in an act of damnatio memoriae. Taddesse Tamrat believes that this last ruler was actually Yetbarak. The end of the Zagwe came when Yekuno Amlak, who never personally claimed to be descendant of Dil Na'od or King Solomon, and acting under the guidance of either Saint Tekle Haymanot or Saint Iyasus Mo'a, pursued the last king of the Zagwe and killed him at the Battle of Ansata.[20]
