I think that might be Tom's point. -ium is a common ending for elements, why object to aluminium? See also: Magnesium, Chromium, Selenium, Helium ... (Tom Lehrer had other examples)

It's not a pronunciation thing, it a spelling thing. We would pronounce aluminum the same way you do - but we don't spell it that way, we use aluminium and pronounce it accordingly. Having divergent spellings is a US/UK speciality

I'm analysing the words they used. Besides which, can you name another country in tbe region with a significant Jewish population? There used to be Jews all over the Middle East, but they were gradually expelled or forced out. There is no reason to suppose that wouldn't happen again.

The motion talks of establishing a "single Palestinian state". Elsewhere in the motion, it defines Palestinians in opposition to Jews (eg in saying that Zionism is "designed to cement the supremacy of one group, Jews, over another, Palestinians") Hence it envisages a land with no Jews.
