I think it is crucial for the health of the Democratic party that the entire consultant class from previous administrations, including and especially Clinton, be told to go home and stop bothering people. They are wrong about everything and have been holding the party back for decades.

My greatest frustrating has been with policy wonks who persist in thinking we can just keep doing normal policy analysis ("calling balls and strikes") in this situation. The President of the United States is both lawless and out of his mind. That preempts all normal discussion.

It's pretty disturbing that the vast majority of news coverage about this (a) has no follow up from Schmitt (b) is not humiliating or devastating to Schmitt but rather is sports-politics coverage "Schmitt tried to catch Smith but couldn't". It's liek describing a strike-out, or a sack. It's pathetic.

As my colleague ably points out: if Paxton wins, centrist transphobes will simply say that Dems will have to turn up the bigotry dial. If Talarico wins *we* can emphasize Paxton's scorched earth anti-trans campaign and say, with justice, that transphobia is a vote loser.

"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

Turns out that being born with a basic income of $333/mo and living with it for the first 4 years of life results in slightly slower biological aging. Because slower aging predicts longer, healthier lives in adults, this suggests UBI from birth could mean longer lives and lower healthcare costs.
