I have saved thousands and thousands over the years by commuting by bike. Plus the joy and health benefits it brings.

Technology that would prevent farmers market incursions CAN improve. And in terms of what does the less harm to people, give me a city full of Waymos over a city full of human drivers any day. Crapping on their shortcomings only perpetuates the death and destruction of human drivers.

Oh no, you can’t currently ticket a driverless car, well let’s go back to the technology that kills 40k people per year (human drivers)

Folks in Ada County, you’re going to have a couple ACHD races to vote for. PLEASE vote for Miranda Gold and Marissa Keith. They are the candidates who will do the most for pedestrians and cyclists, and all around road safety.

“There’s a reason sex-segregated leagues continue to exist.” This is it 1000%. The answer to the question “why do sex-segregated leagues exist?” is an important one.

“Trappings of journalism is great,” which is why you see the suits and desks and slicked hair and and chrons at Newsmax - they love to make it look like real journalism. Makes them feel like it’s real.

This is a very sad day for journalism in Boise and Idaho. The Statesman, for all of its imperfections, has been a leader in Idaho journalism for 160 (!) years. That's coming to an end now.

Idaho passed seven housing bills this year - legalizing ADUs statewide, shrinking minimum lot sizes, and allowing single-stairway apartments. Estimates found the state is short over 45,000 homes despite leading the nation in per-capita housing growth. reason.org/commentary/i...

Prior to the Obama years, you had a solid ~100 year run of existential struggles that brought people together. In order: WWI, Great Depression, WWII, Cold War (and associated crises), terrorism and War on Terror. Then, there was just nothing existential to fight against. So, struggles got invented.

Joe Jaszewski @joeja.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
I think that’s a good point, in the absence of a meaningful struggle, they looked around and decided to indulge their racism and fight about that.

Joe Jaszewski @joeja.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
But it’s not like we just recently suffered a sudden descent into racism. That has been with us for centuries. The recent phenomena that pushed us into this current state is the absence of a meaningful struggle, and resulting boredom. The racism has alway been there.

Yes actually think boredom with peace and prosperity is a big factor in where we are at currently. There was nothing left to fight for. So they made up things to fight for.

Even if we aren't there yet (I think we are), now would be good time to start working on it, as transit systems take time to plan and build. As far as I know, no one is working on this.

Traffic in the Treasure Valley is only going to get worse, and the officials telling you that widening roads for cars will “relieve congestion” are either being dishonest or are ill-informed. Robust transit and protected bike lanes are the way out of endless delays and pollution. It’s physics.

It’s kind of amazing how this is reported in such a matter-of-fact way, like the threats were a force of nature. Isn’t it a crime to threaten federal employees? No talk of prosecution? They just make a threat to get their way, and then get their way without consequence?

These curbs were painted yellow after a child was run over and killed specifically to prevent what’s happening here: vehicles totally blocking the view of crossing pedestrians from oncoming drivers. I guess Hayden Beverage just doesn’t care?

A theme here is that if a person inside city government intervenes on behalf of a restaurant losing parking spots or a random driver getting a parking ticket, that's seen as constituent services. If another government insider works on behalf of keeping people alive, that's seen as advocacy.

Every city needs more bike counters. It's a great way to show that bike lanes are busy even when they appear empty. (And they often appear empty because cyclists don't get stuck in traffic.)

It will never not blow my mind that nothing is physically stopping you from driving a F250 80MPH down Front St in downtown Boise but the city forces you to go 12MPH instead of 15MPH on an e scooter.

I see a public awareness campaign as mostly a waste of time and money. It's been a law for decades and it's not a secret. A certain subset of people just want to hate people on bikes. Any person who gets upset when they see a cyclist roll through a stop sign is probably unreachable anyway.

The price of housing is set by supply and demand. The #1 best thing we can do to make housing affordable and protect tenants is permit a ton of new housing in the places people want to live so that landlords will be forced to compete against each other on price and quality.
