Folks in Ada County, you’re going to have a couple ACHD races to vote for. PLEASE vote for Miranda Gold and Marissa Keith. They are the candidates who will do the most for pedestrians and cyclists, and all around road safety.

This is a very sad day for journalism in Boise and Idaho. The Statesman, for all of its imperfections, has been a leader in Idaho journalism for 160 (!) years. That's coming to an end now.

Idaho passed seven housing bills this year - legalizing ADUs statewide, shrinking minimum lot sizes, and allowing single-stairway apartments. Estimates found the state is short over 45,000 homes despite leading the nation in per-capita housing growth. reason.org/commentary/i...

Traffic in the Treasure Valley is only going to get worse, and the officials telling you that widening roads for cars will “relieve congestion” are either being dishonest or are ill-informed. Robust transit and protected bike lanes are the way out of endless delays and pollution. It’s physics.

These curbs were painted yellow after a child was run over and killed specifically to prevent what’s happening here: vehicles totally blocking the view of crossing pedestrians from oncoming drivers. I guess Hayden Beverage just doesn’t care?

A theme here is that if a person inside city government intervenes on behalf of a restaurant losing parking spots or a random driver getting a parking ticket, that's seen as constituent services. If another government insider works on behalf of keeping people alive, that's seen as advocacy.

Every city needs more bike counters. It's a great way to show that bike lanes are busy even when they appear empty. (And they often appear empty because cyclists don't get stuck in traffic.)

It will never not blow my mind that nothing is physically stopping you from driving a F250 80MPH down Front St in downtown Boise but the city forces you to go 12MPH instead of 15MPH on an e scooter.

The price of housing is set by supply and demand. The #1 best thing we can do to make housing affordable and protect tenants is permit a ton of new housing in the places people want to live so that landlords will be forced to compete against each other on price and quality.

Of the many great things about e-bikes, one is they’ve shone a light on how completely inured we are to car violence. To all of the “e bikes are dangerous” folks, you can say “ok now do cars, which kill 40,000 a year” and they are flummoxed.
