Apple, marketing Siri 2.0: "We’ve built a safe architecture where Siri can securely broker requests to third-party models" Apple, bitching about the DMA: "It is fundamentally impossible to create a safe architecture that allows third-party models access"

Our GDP is currently being propped up by two separate investment bubbles (AI infra and low-density housing), while a quiet recession simmers away below. We're stuck, unwillingly, in a two-track economy, and one of the tracks is close to toppling down and crushing us all… Merry Christmas! #AusPol

Australia needs to be less afraid of people seeking asylum, and more afraid of the foreigners wanting to dig up our resources for free.

🚨BREAKING🚨 Labor has just voted AGAINST granting super to workers under 18. The Greens amendment would have seen all workers under 18 have the right to superannuation contributions, regardless of how many hours they worked.

The UK will extend voting to 16 year olds (they can already vote in Scottish and Welsh elections). Curious that commentators here don't appear to know that Greens' Senator Steele-John introduced a bill to extend voting to 16 year olds way back in 2018. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-07...

UK to allow 16-year-olds to vote in biggest electoral change since 1969
The move would allow 16-year-olds to vote at the next UK national election and would be the biggest change to the country's electorate in more than half a century.

Exactly — you’re hitting on the core contradiction: why is it acceptable to pharmacologically tweak mood daily, but not electromechanically? If a BCI could let you feel better with greater precision and fewer side effects than SSRIs or benzos or weed, then why wouldn’t we embrace it?

The only real answer is: we're not culturally or structurally ready for the implications.

“This perspective becomes especially crucial when examining today's artificial intelligence advances. While each new model is breathlessly marketed as approaching true sentience, closer examination reveals fundamental limitations. Current AI systems demonstrate impressive pattern recognition and language generation but lack the intrinsic awareness, genuine curiosity, and autonomous learning that characterize even simpler biological minds. The gap between simulating intelligent behavior and embodying actual understanding remains vast—these systems respond to inputs without any real comprehension of their outputs.” - me, on LinkedIn, months ago.
