Yesterday we celebrated the new Garraí na Gaeilge @ceilteachomn.bsky.social @maynoothuniversity.ie, which features two objects made by contemporary craftspeople: an ogham stone, inscribed "Maynooth University" and "School of Celtic Studies"; & a traditionally-made currach. #Speirgorm #Spéirghorm
Members of the School of Celtic Studies at Maynooth University gather around a traditional currach. Professor David Stifter gesticulates at a modern ogham stone while members of the School of Celtic Studies look on. Members of the School of Celtic Studies look on as Dr Stiofán Ó Briain recites a poem. A Maynooth University student plays an Irish harp.

Meet the Bart Simpson of 16th century Ireland 😈 An Ceithearnach Caoilriabhach was a rule-breaking trickster in Early Modern Irish culture, a disruptive figure who left chaos in his wake, writes Dr Brianán Ní Bhuachalla @ceilteachomn.bsky.social www.maynoothuniversity.ie/research/spo...
An intricate medieval engraving depicting a feast scene. Several figures in fur-trimmed garments sit around a long table set with empty plates and a tankard. One person gestures animatedly, and another plays a harp. In the foreground, a dog sniffs the ground near a roasting spit over a fire. The background shows people cutting meat, implying a lively banquet atmosphere.
