Doing it would mean *calling out the media* -- identifying these "calm down" narratives, holding them up to the light, explicitly refuting them. If they just get drawn into one mini-argument after another (is *this* little thing worth *this much* time & anger?) they'll be worn down.

Calling on Dems to have more fight, to take opposition and accountability more seriously, *just is* asking them to develop a thick skin and blow off received wisdom & elite opinion. And we need to be clear-eyed that they have never shown any propensity for this, any willingness to do it, at all.

Over the last decade, there were two hypotheses: H1: the political right genuinely cared about threats to speech from the left. H2: they were using campus speech wars to impose their values and silence dissent. Today, the answer is clear, but I can't find any of the H1 people admitting their error.

Diprotodon, the proto-wombat, was the size of an SUV. They lived alongside anatomically modern humans in Australia for about 10,000 years until going extinct about 25-40,000 years ago. If they had proportionally sized cubic poop, it would be the size of a cinderblock, I think?
Something I found on Reddit. It shows a hypothetical scale-up of the wombat, probably ahistorical, as the Diprotodon is from a distinct lineage from the modern wombat, but it gets the idea of size across by putting it next to a modern northern hairy-nosed wombat.

Three thousand years ago, a Greek potter looked at a bowl and thought: ‘You know what this needs? A leg!’ Clay bowl with leg-shaped handle!🦵😆 Early Geometric period 850 BC. Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows an ancient Greek pottery bowl with a rounded, deep body, wide open mouth and flared rim. It has a large handle shaped like a human leg, extending from the left side of the bowl in my photo, bending at a right angle and ending in a flat foot. The bowl has a camel-coloured surface decorated with dark brown geometric patterns, which include zigzags and meander motifs arranged in horizontal bands around the body of the bowl and along the leg. From Attica, Early Geometric period, circa 850 BC. It sits on a light stone coloured surface in a display case at the Altes Museum in Berlin.
