Trump is an unhinged, fascist demagogue leading a fascist party. He enthralls millions who see their lower selves and basest instincts reflected in him and are energized by that.

Rare kudos to @washingtonpost.com for putting the Trump-Putin diesel story on the top of their paper and framing it accurately in the subheader. Compare that to @nytimes.com making it the 13th story down and framing it as a nothingburger. @nytimes.com is bad for democracy and has been for decades.

WaPo for some reason didn't provide an AI summary of the reader comments in response to their editorial urging the passage of a bill that some call a fossil-fuel wish-list. So allow me! Those Post readers are sharp! wapo.st/4B2wrDS
Readers are mostly hostile, and their hostility is aimed as much at the editorial board as at the bill. The most-recommended comments distrust anything the board endorses: “If the EB is for it, it must be bad for ordinary Americans,” and “Bezos propaganda is backfiring.” Others call the board a mouthpiece for Bezos, Big Oil and Trump, mock its “left-wing interest groups” framing, and note that Bezos replaced the previous board. On substance, critics see the bill as a giveaway to fossil-fuel interests and AI data centers dressed up as clean-energy policy. They object to narrowing NEPA reviews, to exempting some infrastructure repairs entirely, and to curbing lawsuits they see as a tool for communities rather than nuisance litigation. A historic-preservation advocate warned that the bill would gut Section 106 reviews and ignore tribal sovereignty. Several readers argue that data centers should supply their own power or pay impact fees, and that the government should stop subsidizing fossil fuels and killing wind projects. Others say Democrats should wait for a better deal after November, or that a massive bill rushed before an election must be hiding something. A small minority backs the board, arguing that permitting delays block clean energy too and that “perfect is the enemy of the good.” Their comments mostly drew few or negative votes. A few readers say they’ll withhold judgment until they hear from environmental groups or see a neutral analysis of the bill.

Ossoff is acting like Trump/MAGA/GOP and what they’ve done to the country is Actually Bad. Charismatic and well spoken, which sure helps. But no “my friends across the aisle,” no acting like the imaginary “Baileys” are the only ones who matter, no “don’t talk values, only kitchen table.” That’s it.

That's good stuff from @nytimes.com but it makes me wonder why they refuse to contextualize their reporting of other domestic issues 90+% of the time. It's not like Trump and his administration haven't done things beyond the pale on the regular while the Times simply reported it at face value.

Pentagon officials said on Thursday that the Army officer convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting would be executed in public, a practice that ended in the United States nearly a century ago and is most commonly carried out in a handful of countries, including Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan.

The Pentagon said in a statement that the military execution, scheduled for Dec. 3, would also be broadcast via livestream. Such a broadcast has little precedent, and releasing video of executions is most often associated with extremist militant groups like the Islamic State.By Amy B Wang, Aoife Walsh and Maegan Vazquez

The Defense Department said in a statement Thursday that the firing squad execution of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be live-streamed for the public to watch.

Earlier Thursday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he wanted the execution to be public.
