I needed code indexing of major systems to help me research software. And now Standard subscribers get access to the same dataset. At the moment around 60 databases and programming languages are indexed (searchable, browsable), and the full 400+ project corpus is the goal.

I wanted to update my keyboard's keymap for the first time in 11 years and the firmware just compiled and flashed in the first go. I feel like this is only possible with OSS. If this was official software from the manufacturer, I doubt it'd still work after that long.

I haven't confirmed, but these days I notice lots of YC companies are knock offs of existing companies, rather than being the first to market. I'm not saying there shouldn't be competition, but lots of launches I look at now and go "oh, that's an ___ competitor". Has something changed?

Idk to blame 1Password or macOS, but pretty regularly the emoji picker on macOS just ceases to show up until you quit 1pw (maybe because it left secure keyboard entry on or something?).

i learned a cute trick today! you can customize the colors of the terminal and ghost icon for ghostty: macos-icon = custom-style macos-icon-ghost-color = #9c64fe macos-icon-screen-color = #191919
A screenshot of a macOS dock with 3 icons: activity monitor, ghostty, and brave. The ghostty icon has a darker gray terminal and pink ghost rather than the typical dark blue terminal and light blue ghost.

ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.

TIL a neato trick when I hit a flake with a gh package (with GH instability might be a more and more common). Once you've kicked off a gh workflow and one of the workflows in that workflow flakes, you have to wait for the entire workflow to finish before you can select re-run failed jobs.

Two papers came out last week that suggest classical asymmetric cryptography might indeed be broken by quantum computers in just a few years. That means we need to ship post-quantum crypto now, with the tools we have: ML-KEM and ML-DSA. I didn't think PQ auth was so urgent until recently.

The risk that cryptographically-relevant quantum computers materialize within the next few years is now high enough to be dispositive, unfortunately.
