A but of #gardenarchaeology today whilst painting the fence. In a two foot length of border I found a whole load of willowpattern, plus some glass, a couple of other earthenware fragments, and a couple of pieces of clay pipe. House was built in 1895.

I've started work on another KING157 boxcar in #hoscale. Finally completed, MTK white metal kit of a Class 40 diesel locomotive. So many side projects over the course of this build. It's taken two years up to now. The final tedious hurdle was cutting and placing 20 clear plastic windows. Here are pics of where it started, up to today. #modeltrains

The final quarry that I explored on my visit to North Wales was Gorseddau. A considerable amount of investment was made in this quarry and it's associated tramway and mill (Ynysypandy), though it operated for less than 20 years due to poor quality slate, and inaccessibility. #slate #explore #wales

Here’s Britomart starting a short train of empty slate waggons out of Minffordd Yard before coasting along the Mineral Line and then getting a little tap on the regulator. You can get some nice effects when DCC locos are ‘driven’. Am I changing anyone’s mind here?

Ynysypandy Slate Mill, in operation from 1857 to 1871. A very impressive building and site. The mill was water powered with an overshot waterwheel fed from an aqueduct - I couldn't see any trace of this on my visit, but worth another explore one day. #slate #explore archwilio.org.uk/her/chi3/arc...

Somewhere I've seen pictures of but never visited - Prince of Wales Quarry in North Wales. It turned out I could see it from our holiday accommodation, so a fine day was spent walking up and exploring. It was every bit as atmospheric as I'd hoped, such an amazing site.

Walking from Prince of Wales Quarry, I came across this North Wales barn and thought it was unusual in that it has roof windows. On closer inspection, they turned out to be caravan windows fitted in the roof. I found the sad remains of the probable donor behind the building. #vernacular

Had my first opportunity to examine the exquisite weathering makeover work on some of our locos. A favourite is the Collet Goods in rather scruffy condition. For what is essentially a Mainline product from the early 1980s it still stands up well against contemporary models.

Mystery intermittent short diagnosed and successfully fixed on the Southern F-1, turns out one of the brake shoes was just the tiniest bit bent and contacted the middle insulated driver flange in curves. Oh the joys of brass! Finally back to my client it goes now!

Small Birminghams. Or Bug Boxes. Perhaps the most famous narrow gauge carriages ever? On Minffordd in the 1960s we show these hard at work on the relief ‘Flying Flea’ service to mop up every shilling and penny in the summer peak to plough back into rebuilding the FR.

Design and building process. Started with dimensions of the 1850 Norris locomotive Copiapo, added missing details (stack and cab) from other historic sources, adjusted proportions to fit the Mantua chassis, printed, fitted together, painted, and now good to go.
