A giant image carved into the Arizona desert, one that border wall crews damaged earlier this year, turns out to be far older than anyone realized. The artwork, called the Las Playas Intaglio, is a huge fish shape scratched into the ground on the ancestral homeland of the Tohono O’odham south of Ajo. It stretches more than 170 feet long and 50 feet wide, and for years, experts guessed it was about 1,000 years old. Now they know they were way off. New research says the fish is at least 6,500 years old, with the possibility of being even older, according to findings published in the September issue of The SAA Archaeological Record https://www.azfamily.com/2026/09/25/new-dating-reveals-artwork-damaged-by-border-wall-is-oldest-geoglyph-americas/
