For the record, this is galaxy brained casting and I could not be more delighted by it. I hope they make her sing "We're in the Money" in Pig Latin: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJOj...

I am proud that no less than 4 people immediately alerted me to the Darkwing Duck reboot, but the fact that it took days for me to learn that Sabrina Carpenter has been cast as Ginger Rogers clearly means I need to rethink some things. Meditating on how to strengthen my personal brand as we speak.

Took out a digital drawing from a few years ago that I wasn't quite happy with to see if re-working and doing it traditionally might help. Sorry, not Batman. GREEN ARROW and BLACK CANARY.

Drawing of Green Arrow and Black Canary, yes, the DC Comics characters. By Doc Shaner. Green Arrow is rendered in shades of green and Black Canary is rendered in shades of bl- yellow. Yellow. Yes.

A note re Warren Ellis: I've seen the narrative floating around that the process of transformative justice between Warren and SoManyOfUs fell apart for reasons outside of Warren's control, sometimes with an implication that these reasons were on the side of SMOU. This is not true.

Dolly Parton preached kindness and acceptance. She worked hard to make people's lives better. She used her fame and status to help others. Now look at how her life is being celebrated. Look at the boundless love. This is the way. More people should figure that out.

I think of Superman not as a power fantasy, but as a fantasy of the powerful as really good people. I kind of feel that way about Dolly Parton, too.

And yes there were soulless horrible sequels but at least they were direct to video and the studio was still producing NEW stuff.

I also grew up during the Disney Renaissance and I remember being so excited by glimpses of whatever was coming up next. Technically yes, they were all adaptations rather than original stories...but they were also all NEW takes on those stories with exciting new visual and musical directions.

I think it's the difference between "I'm telling this story again because I'm fascinated by it or have a new approach to it" and "How can we squeeze yet more money out of a once beloved property?"

Jessica Plummer @jessplummerwrites.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

On the one hand, popular culture has literally always been full of remakes and retellings and sequels. Look at A Star Is Born, or, like, the concept of Robin Hood. On the other hand, watching all the announcements of sequels and remakes and sequels to remakes from D23 is incredibly depressing.

As a reminder, in 2020, more than 60 people accused Warren Ellis of grooming and sexual impropriety, coming together to create the website somanyofus.com. In its most recent update, in 2023, the site posted: "To the best of our knowledge, Warren Ellis took none of the steps we hoped he would."
