Got another 770 words done. Have time for some more, but feel like I need a break. ~~~ “I said I would,” Tarun replied, pride momentarily overwhelming the fear that was his constant companion. Pride he could feel multiplied in the heat of the Sun's pleasure. #AmWriting

I think the reluctance to say that abusers shouldn't have positions of power comes back to Great Man Theory. There's a temptation to think that movements pivot on particular exceptional individuals and we therefore have to excuse their abuse in the name of their contributions to a higher cause.

Okay from the way people have been talking about the Cornell case I thought it was one of the typical situations where no punishment was meted out to anyone but according to this (🎁🔗, don’t @ me) piece that’s not true. The ringleaders were expelled, an alum was barred from campus, others suspended…

G'morning. Day is not off to the best start. My proprioception is shot and my anxiety is through the roof. I have reason to believe these things are connected. Anyway, no driving for me today. And writing it going to be an exercise in frustration. Gonna write anyway, of course.

#QueerPrompts Oct 3 I don't have any scary scenes in my current WIP, but this is a "Drabble" from a Halloween writing sprit game some years ago. Now sure how to CW it, but... it's not pretty.
The waiting was the worst. Locked in the cage, knowing what was to come. Knowing there was no escape. After a long time, there was a faint scent of smoke. Tiny wisps of it sneaking through the door.

Not enough to make me cough. Far, far to little to bring unconsciousness. Damn it.

Then, slowly, heat began to penetrate the floor. I shifted my feet, instinctively trying to move away from the discomfort. But there was no where to go.

I was sweating, for what good it did. My feet burnt and blistered. I stood as long as I could, keeping my body away from the floor. The air itself was hot enough to burn - like a sunburn across my whole skin.

The pain was... beyond. Eventually I couldn't think, couldn't remember, just the pain, and screaming. And still it got hotter.

I stumbled, fell into the wall, my hands, my chest, my face, blistered and broke in a moment. I pushed myself away and fell to the floor, it started to glow a dull red... then, only pain.

#FantasyIndiesOctober 3: Saturday Snippet
Lars, Called of Annica Steady-Hands, stood at the entrance to the Temple and prepared, for the first time in decades, to step off the grounds and back into the wider world. He stood unnoticed among the travelers and visitors and monks, earing not the priestly garments he had made so many years ago, but a simple tunic and trews designed to blend in among the people of the city.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward, and was more surprised than he should have been when his feet moved smoothly, nothing barred his way, and his goddess remained a steady presence in his thoughts. Hiding his surge of triumph, he stepped briskly through the crowd, eyeing his surroundings as eagerly as any tourist.
The city had changed in his long absence, but not so much to be unrecognizable. Long forgotten habit turned his feet to a section of the city populated primarily by craftsman and their families. He soon found himself in the courtyard of a small temple surrounded by crafthouses. Once-familiar smells and sounds filled the street and he allowed himself to rest among them, taking a seat on one of the benches in the otherwise empty courtyard.

#WIPSnips Oct 2 - crack instead of dent
Santosh, called of Ertu of the Fields, approached the small altar room dedicated to Asher the Chancemaker cautiously. He brought with him a bundle that the Hunt-Called had offered him. “I had meant to try to give it to him later today,” Iberto had said, “but if you go to him now, better you bring it.” The man had flashed a wry grin. “For all I know, he will throw away anything from me immediately, and that would be a waste of a hunt, short though it was.”
Santosh smiled at the memory. Iberto was young yet, both in age and in his service to the goddes. He carried with him the brash confidence of youth, a certainty that he knew what must be done which had carried him far. But having spoken with him now, Santosh could see cracks in the young Called's confidence. Getting to know Iberto, he decided, would be one of his priorities in the next weeks.
But that was for later.

#QueerPrompts Oct 2: Free Friday Here's a drawing of the Great Goddess and a rough sketch of her Called, Iberto, from before he became hers. As her Called, Iberto is a rough cross between the Great Goddess' avatar and her high priest, and she has tasked him with saving the goddes.
The Great Goddess in cat-form, a fantasy version of a sabertoothed cat, dark grey with black markings, tufted ears and tail. Quote text reads: "It is done. By blood and prayer, the great alter has been consecrated and I have claimed my priest."Sketch of Iberto: a scruffy man dressed like a D&D rogue.

Even the article repeatedly underlines that all of this is according to the second hand descriptions of interviews by the FBI, while she herself has made no comment. Stop repeating the FBI saying someone looked them in the eye and said "I'm going to do the crime" as fact!
During a June 18 interview with hospital investigators, Freeman admitted allowing the man to leave, the FBI affidavit alleges.

According to the government's account of the interview, Freeman said she knew the patient was in immigration custody but did not believe he remained in custody at that moment because immigration agents were not physically present with him in the CT room.

Freeman allegedly told investigators that she removed the man's IV and escorted him through the ambulance bay doors. The affidavit alleges she also said she disagreed with ICE separating people from their families and knew she "was going to set him free."

"Freeman told the interviewers that she did not agree with ICE separating people from their families and that she knew she 'was going to set him free,'" Wagner wrote in the affidavit.

She also acknowledged that the man's injuries could have been life-threatening, according to the affidavit.
