Bahji and Merisande sail on opposing ships—one as first mate on a pirate vessel and the other as lieutenant in the navy. Their love has endured fifteen years of secrecy and stolen time.

New tensions arise after the death of a legendary pirate captain—and the navy commodore claiming his flag. Bahji and Merisande find themselves pulled deeper into a conspiracy from opposite ends. It will demand sacrifices neither is prepared to make.

Merisande
Lieutenant in the Navy, a woman of order and discipline. She only ever breaks for Bahji. She's stalled in the ranks and eyes a promotion, but they’ve never truly accepted a woman from the neutral Chaconia Isles.

The iron blade of the dagger was sharp at Bahji's pulse. It scraped the delicate skin, and a shiver ran down her spine. The officer's wrist was slim, skin the same shade as the burnished copper coins in her pouch. White jacket cuffs neat and pressed. Unlikely to stain it with blood. Floorboards creaked in the hallway, but the blade kept her quiet, and the fingers kneading her hip.

That voice again, light but raspy, cinnamon in rum. Lips brushed her ear. "You've found yourself in a Navy Lieutenant's room. What were your intentions, pirate?"

Bahji tilted her neck and warm breath rolled down the length of it. Her voice was a hoarse whisper, "Wayward, I assure you."
