She/her. Germantown, TN-Omaha, NE-currently *Nashville.* I’m bi-regional! MNPS parent. Voted Dukakis in 2nd grade election, no regrets. Bad sleeper. Cars are the worst: obsessed w/ sidewalks, bike lanes. Obsessed with TN history, especially Nashoba.

God fucking dammit: Nashville Symphony is suspending their 2026-27 season and furloughing everybody. Because it’s not like anybody in Nashville could afford to save it, right? We’re just a smol bean, golly gee, nobody’s got world-class Grammy-winning orchestra money round these here parts

Just what the world needs, more people to work in finance. Fantastic. No, don't save entire humanities or arts programs that are being gutted on two continents, send more young people to Wall Street!

If you or someone in your house is not trans, the only thing you should ever think about trans kids is “How might I brighten their day should I come across one?” Beyond that, you’re a fucking weirdo who is extremely useful to nazis.

I sometimes nodded and smiled too much, and the lecturer assumed I knew what they were about to say, or had something significant to contribute. I would have to mumble something about appreciating their ideas. I always felt badly for derailing the conversation with my overactive listener face!

Just a heads up. I was able to schedule my COVID vaccine appointment. Online it may ask “do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 virus.” Click yes and it will allow you to schedule an appointment. No questions asked. No proof required. Pass it on.

Teas, herbal infusions, coffee, and Diet Coke (or Coke Zero if you are so inclined) available every day at 3PM when you’re having an out of body experience because your middle school child says “isn’t that from the 70s?” when they see a clip of a Charlie Chaplin movie!

Comprehensive transit for your middle schooler! (No cars involved, obviously.) Community fridges full of ice cold water in reusable bottles you can return from your front door so someone else can remember to wash and dry them and refill them for the next day!

My pitch is that we redirect the contract $$$ that is currently going to SpaceX into a “Parents of Middle School Students Fund.” We see what happens when we lavish one specific group of parents with resources. Like the kind of comprehensive support only billionaires have experienced.

What I want to know is WHY DesJarlais is always re-elected? I didn’t follow his primary campaigns because he wasn’t my representative until now, but it seems bonkers there weren’t ever any Republican candidates people liked more. Slimeball and wildly unethical behavior aside, he has no charisma.

Electeds don’t need to ask constituents what they want speed limits to be, if they like speed humps, or how they feel about turning right on red. Tell ppl what the body of research says about best practices, and cosponsor the legislation! My CM is so quiet on this stuff, and it is so frustrating.

That happened to me at Thoroughbred in Cool Springs, IMAX theater. I put in AirPods for noise cancellation but it didn’t help since the floor, seats & my teeth were vibrating! It was so annoying. I’m blaming the theater’s sound system, at least partially. Never a great moviegoing experience there

$39 and if I spill something on it, nbd! It folds in half with a handle (for when I eventually get a nicer desk) so it’s super easy to store.

I use an adjustable height folding table from Walmart. It’s slim for a folding table, narrower than what I’d use for Thanksgiving dinner overflow—though perfect for a little kid table at the lowest height! Its top height is ≈ standing desk. I throw on a heavy tablecloth to pretend it’s a real desk.

These new places are serving Victorian workhouse/orphanage. I assume they come prehaunted. The contractor leaves a burlap sack of miscellaneous bones and cursed objects in the butler’s pantry along with the manuals for the refrigerator and dishwasher.

Oh man. I remember the Koch Bros getting their sweaty old hands all over it, but I should’ve guessed that the campaign team did not partner adequately with Black communities who were understandably leery of big transit projects. Sighhhhhh

Jenny @jensherpec.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
It was a big failure, totally agree, but can we hang that failure on primarily on Megan Barry? Was she such a flawed messenger, or was it a big lift to convince people to spend big money on transit when they were used to living in the land of low property taxes, no state income tax?

I imagine a larger amount of the pushback came from conservative groups than progressive activists, no? I voted in favor, and I don’t remember hearing as much pushback from the left as I did from the usual anti-tax crowd, though to be fair I was busy with parenting life and didn’t follow it closely.

What do you think is the most feasible solution to reduce WeGo trip time from OHB & Nolensville Rd over to the far reaches of Bellevue, for example, which would take close to 2 hrs one way? My fantasy is adding way more crosstown routes—with a slew of new buses and shuttles of course.

Which character would fare better if scooped up and dropped into the other character’s story? My vote is Enola, although she might need a few extra minutes to learn about like drones and surveillance satellites.

Okay I loved that character so much I watched every episode of the last season after Fleischman disappeared into the wilderness and the show went off the rails, because I saw the Chris-Maggie relationship on the horizon and I had to see it. (And I almost went to graduate school in Alaska lol.)

What if a really cool person (or foundation) with a few million bucks burning a hole in their pockets started a nonprofit bus service in Nashville is what I’m saying.
000
Jenny @jensherpec.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
I know there is (was?) a state of TN passenger van leasing scheme for commuters at one point. People at the outer edges of Metro or in Smyrna or Murfreesboro could essentially rent a state owned passenger van with neighbors and coworkers who had to commute into Nashville, say within the 440 ring.

Jenny @jensherpec.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
The nonprofit I’m imagining into existence would not usurp or compete with existing transit, but supplement it, maybe even with the goal being for the public transit system to adopt the routes/vehicles/drivers over time.

I know there are small transportation nonprofits for seniors and disabled folks, but are there nonprofits that operate where public transit doesn’t have infrastructure/vehicles? Like one that operates a handful of shuttle buses, passenger vans, or one full size bus to augment an existing system?
121
Jenny @jensherpec.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
I’m sure some people with that sweet sweet west side transit access use it as much as possible, but they probably have many neighbors and coworkers who only travel by car?
140
Jenny @jensherpec.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
My guess: people who have the most options tend to use public transit less. People over here walk pretty far on disconnected sidewalks and the side of the road to get to bus stops. But that’s just my guess.
140
Jenny @jensherpec.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
Yes! Thank you! I’m so happy that West Nashville has good bus service and parks and bike lanes, that is excellent, but those resources are desperately needed in 37211, and then beyond into Antioch—which would be the equivalent of the extremely generous bus line through Belle Meade out into Bellevue

Jenny @jensherpec.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
Yes! It would take an hour for us to get downtown (not accounting for the time to drive to the bus stop b/c we can’t bike/walk there right now) & 40 mins to get to Geodis—and of course that bus stop is not close to the stadium from Nolensville Rd! Driving takes 20 mins to Geodis, 30 mins downtown

Not recent, but The Raven Cycle books by Maggie Stiefvater, read by Will Patton, are so so good. Patton’s voice is just impeccable. Thirteen Moons and Nightwoods by Charles Frazier, also read by Will Patton, are fantastic.
